Game Stop Pre Order Question

As a former Game Stop employee PRE-ORDERS ARE IMPORTANT! Game Stop's company policy, regardless of reality, lives and dies on pre-orders so they, along with the developers and publishers really push those reserves and the bonus content that comes with them. However, all of the initial copies which arrive at the store probably will have the cloth maps, future copies won't.

Now when you said there is no in-store pickup are you referring to the online store? That is completely different then a game being available in-store. If this Game Stop store is halfway decent there SHOULD be a midnight release where you can pick it up If not then it should be available the next day. I'd call and talk to the manager to see/clarify exactly what is happening, available, and what your options are.

Personally, I think you'll get the game quicker from a store then via mail.

P.S. Game Stop is absolutely ridiculous about their reserves. Make sure to reserve a new release to get the bonus stuff AHEAD of time... Game Stop employees WILL hold it against you if you didn't.

Yeah I know this is all my fault to begin with and I have learned my lesson. I have already said that I will be picking it up in store instead of through the mail. I am not worried about not being able to pick up the pre order in store now. The option was there before and even if I had known that I could have put five dollars down ahead of time I still wouldn't have been able to do it because I didn't have any money on me. The little money I had left I had to give to my parents to help pay for gas and groceries. So by the time I got the money to pre order it the option to pick it up in the store was gone so to avoid having to wait a day or two for a pre ordered copy to arrive I figured that I might as well just buy it at the store when it releases.

Like I said before I didn't really mean anything when I talked about Game Stop and their pre order bonuses in my OP. That was just my anger getting the best of me and I do apologize for that. Thanks for informing me with why Game Stop advertises pre order bonuses so often. Don't worry I am sure they will make plenty of money from them seeing how many people here have said that they have already pre ordered months in advance.

Hey! Any of you Gamestop employees..please enlighten me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I preordered for in-store pick up. I just received a text that stated:

"Your Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim avail 12:01am Fri. Arrive 10pm Thu to finalize payment."

Why would I make two separate trips to Gamestop...the first on Thursday to finalize payment and the second actually on Friday to pick up the game. Why not finalize my payment of Friday so I only need to make one trip????????????? Will they give my pre order away if I don't finalize payment Thursday evening???????????????

Also, if I were to go on Thursday evening and finalize payment...is there a chance that they would hand the game over to me Thursday night? Not that it would do me any good, but it would make me more secure knowing that it was already in my possession and ready to be played Friday after work?

If you wanted to preorder the Collector's Edition it would've been $25 :P

Anyways, I preorder most games now even if they don't have a bonus just because I'm too lazy to look around if it's not at the store :D Usually I do it a month or two before, to see if there are any CE's, but I'll only get the CE if it has cool stuff and is for a game I like.

I'm not a GameStop employee, but I always pay the day it releases when I pick it up, so I don't know what the message is about.

I'll bite and assume you're not trolling. They want you to come at 10PM Thursday night because 12:01 AM Friday is 2 hours later.. You wouldn't be making two trips. You're expected to arrive and wait there until 12. That is if you want to be one of the first in line. If not you might wait a long while since most midnight releases are first come first serve.

I understand your point and it was one of the reasons why I pre-ordered here in Austria. But Bethesda doesn't seem to care and had pushed the release date for my english copy to the 18.11.2011.

Sorry such policies from a publisher doesn't motivate me to pre-order and pay in advance ever again.

No, I'm not trolling....this legitimately didn't make sense. I preordered. Why the f*** wouldn't I wait until Friday so I don't have to stand in line. I apologize if I sound naive, but I never went to a "midnight" release nor have ever had any desire to do so. I guess I didn't realize long lines formed at game stores. In hindsight, I probably should have had it shipped as this sounds like it's becoming more of a headache than I anticipated. I simply wanted to stroll in and stroll out...
