This could be forced first person to make it easier to animate.Definitely a fan of your idea on a climbing mod, simple, straightforward and to the point. I've read a few climbing mod ideas and I think they overthink things a bit much, overcomplicate it a little. Just make a mod that allows you to basically "walk" up the sharp inclines, dependent on either a new skill/stat or perk tree. Vertical climbing system could be implemented later if possible.
