RubikNight Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I live in Shanghai, if I buy a North American copy of the game, can I play it in China? Or do I have to buy a copy in Hong Kong? This is regarding the fact Skyrim requires a Steam activation.

It wouldn't violate anything unless Bethesda explicitly wants to prohibit different regions trading/buying the game. As for whether this is the case, I'm not sure. I don't think Fallout 3 or Oblivion are region locked are they?

It's just the PC version requires Steam, and I had the issue when going back to Canada with Orange Box it couldn't install, until I did it in Hong Kong. Otherwise, updates and such didn't matter.
meatballproblems Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Ya I am living in the Philippines right now and I pre-ordered Skyrim. They called me today saying they only got the Asian region games in which won't work on an American Xbox 360 (which I have). Fail!
Roaming Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 It's region locked. I am now stuck with a non working RU key on my Steam account and can't remove it or play Skyrim, unless on VPN. Why is a single player game region locked? WHO KNOWS!

I've already tried to remove the key from my account by contacting them and they said they won't remove it.I haven't tried asking them to remove my region lock but I will try that next.

If they still won't help you, try contacting Bethesda customer support.
