A Noob Having Trouble With Nifskope.... Help Please?

im 100% new to this.

and searching around the web for help has availed me nothing.

in brief, i am putting something together, and using Bad Andy's Draconic armour, with permission of course.

i renamed some files (potentially a large issue, right?)

but have the same files, unedited, for now.

in putting, for example, the draconic cuirass into the game,

it simply gives me a mesh black as pitch.

oh great, i thought, now i need to work with extra-CS programs to fix this...

so i simply dont know how to attach "cuirass.nif" to "cuirass.dds"

my textures:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\textures\armor\Bad Andy\DraconicArmor\cuirass.dds

my meshes:

C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\meshes\armor\Bad Andy\DraconicArmor\m\cuirass.nif

i figure there may be some issue with the "m" folder...?

im using the latest version of nifskope,

thank you for helping a poor newbie out.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do here... are you trying to attach a new texture to a mesh? If so, click on the NiSourceTexture block and, from the drop down menu, select Texture > Choose. This will let you browse to the directory containing your texture file. That should allow you to add a texture to your mesh. If it still doesn't work, make sure that Nifskope knows where the Oblivion data files are stored by going to Render -> Settings, and clicking on the button labelled Auto Detect Game Paths.

It depends on the mesh... expand all the little bits of the tree to the left until you find it- it has a little purple flower next to it, which you can also click on to choose the texture. There might be more than one, if the mesh uses more than one texture.

it looks like it should be working then...

would you take a look?

I'm still not entirely sure what you're trying to do... is this a vanilla texture? If so, make sure you've unpacked it from the bsa. If not... I'm not entirely sure what could be the problem... I don't use nifskope that often, I'm afraid.

its not a vanilla texture.

im just taking someone else's mod and repackaging it,

using a different folder structure for the meshes and textures.

but when i playtested it, the meshes were pitch black and i had CTDs when equipping them.
