Win7 X64 Scratchy Sound Problem

(sob) - Got up at 4am this morning - had 2 hours of gameplay - then had to go to work!!! (sob)

Spec: i7 3.5GHz/6GB ram/GTX-560Ti/onboard sound (realtek HD audio) - game runs smooth as silk on high detail 1920x1080.

I'm getting a low volume level scratchy/fuzzy/sparky sound over the background sounds (not the music or foreground sounds). It sometimes goes away for a few secs (usually when there appears to be no major background sound - eg wind noise).

It really detracts from the otherwise excellent experience so far (bar the dodgy console menuing system).

Also (haven't read the manual yet - steam download) - hot keying num key 2 to the quick choice of a bow - the hot key keeps dropping off once I select any other hotkey - spells & swords seem to stick OK though.

Maybe this is related to the audio game crashes on win7 64bit?

Try this:

control panel> hardware and sound> sound> click on your device> properties> advanced> switch to anything below 192000Hz

If that doesn't work, do the same thing, but switch to dvd quality.

I've heard a few people have this problem, but their games usually crash as well. IDK if this will fix it for you.

Reducing my audio settings from 192K to 48K and from 24bit to 16bit fixed my problems.

Awesome - it worked!

Control Panel -> Realtek HD Audio Manger -> Default Format -> changed to 24 Bit/44100 Hz - works a treat.

Inside a building there was a fireplace that had a background roaring noise (as fires do) - I could hear the problem all the the time - after the fix no more fuzzy noise - perfection.

Thanks Rennn.

Ive got a similar problem that unfortunately has not been fixed by changing the above settings.

I started out having the buzzing dialogue like most people and the change to 44100hz did indeed fix that, however the problem seems to be larger than that now. All spell sound effects and a majority of background noises are filled with static, casting something like Healing creates such a huge blast of static I almost can't even play the game.

Ive gone through most of the Hz settings and nothing fixed it, my sound card drivers are up to date and ive never had any problem like this in any game or anything ever before.
