Tweetybird
It's not just your problem. In Prague (Czech Republic) waited about three hundred people at midnight in front of one of the stores... Everyone waited to get Skyrim, everyone got it a everyone paid ... and now unexpected see to the surprise from Steam: "Skyrim cannot be installed yet, because it is not yet released" I'm not going to shed tears becuase some stores broke the street date, and people found out that they still had to wait like everyone else. Steam CAN be a problem, but there's a lot that has nothing to do with Steam and everything to do with impatience. If it was supposed to unlock and didn't which is indeed being reported in places, do you think you'd feel a little more sympathetic?
Nightwolfhunter
This is Bethesda's chosen method of DRM. It's far less draconian than others widely in use *cough* EA *cough*. Steam is a simple yet effective way to ensure stores don't break street date and to make the game more difficult to obtain illegally. Having seen some of the other DRM systems out there, I'm not going to complain about the Steam verification. You should. Because if you don't, the EA type is going to be standard. GOG has the best DRM. Which is to say that they have NONE. They assume you are going to be a good person and buy their stuff and then enjoy your game. Digital copies should be SIMPLE. 1. pay for game2. it installs3. you play. DRM makes ti more like 1. buy game2. prove to the DRM you have a NEW copy.3. prove to the DRM you have bought the game4. prove to DRM that you want the game.5. Prove part 2, 3 and 4.6. repeat 5.7. install game.8. prove to the DRM you still own the game.9. get the .exe unencrypted.10. launch the program again.11. get all updates.12. Prove to the DRM that you still own a NEW copy that ONLY YOU have touched.13. repeat step 5. 14. PLAY THE GAME! 15. by the time you have hit step 14, your entire gaming weekend is gone. Have fun at work. for your reading pleasure. http://www.gamespot.com/news/good-old-games-sounds-anti-drm-clarion-call-6344711?tag=newstop%3Btitle%3B8DRM sucks and you should not stand for it. Valve owns Steam and they can do no wrong. They are incapable of acknowledging that Steam and Steamworks are not good for the consumer. These are separate from your Steam login. Until we hear otherwise, it looks like they caught this before major damage was done.
jjk999
Steam really super sucks. I am getting a problem saying the game is currently unavailable. I am trying the properties-local files-verify integrity of game cache. Also whenever I am playing steam crashed my game to show updates from its store. Steam sucks giant fat ones. Ive worked in the games industry for 12 years now and I had to actually impliment a DRM system a few years ago. We're a small company and with some tracking we worked out that for every game we sold, 3 were being played from pirated copies. It was the difference between profit and a loss for the company, not just big company making EXTRA money. The DRM was based on 'innocent until proven guilty' If it couldnt connect to a server, it let you in.If it couldnt prove you had done anything wrong, it let you in immediately. No messing around assuming you were the bad guy 'do you really own this... no really? Are you sure? Bend over and prepare to be probed, just in case'... If it ever proved you had a dodgy copy, it locked it out so badly that even a reinstall was impossible, without reinstalling the whole computer It doubled sales, it wouldnt stop the person DETERMINED to steal it, but it did what it was needed to - and the customer was NEVER locked out or inconvenienced. And thats how DRM should work. Good for the company but NEVER difficult for the customer.
anandus
Steam really super sucks. I am getting a problem saying the game is currently unavailable.Try again, it often means the servers are busy.I've had it sometimes, but after a few tries I get through.
