So I go out and buy the PHYSICAL PC COPY OF SKYRIM, (caps were intended) thinking is going to be set up like Oblivion is... The damn thing logs me on to steam as I sit here and download at 100 KB/s.

A: I stood in line, in 32 degree temps to avoid this.

B: If I have A DVD what am I downloading for? Whats the 5 GB of data on the DvD?

C: Modding... Modding anything Steam related sucks.

This seriously is not cool.

Some help I found. I just skipped the run command deal and just re-opened the autorun on the disc. Working now.

Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc

Log in to Steam and click on Library.

Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.

Insert the first disc into your computer.

Close Steam (Steam > Exit).

Press Windows Key + R to open Run

In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.

Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.

Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc.

Check this out: It's a guide about installing from the DVD:

Update: This method does work, thanks for the info.

Remember to delete the local game content (I did this twice / I also logged out of Steam). My first attempt failed because the servers were "too busy". The second attempt it went through.
