That Sinking feeling when you realize your expensive new XPS might not

So, I think I am slowly realizing that my virtually brand new XPS [specs below] may be unable to run Skyrim at the lowest of settings. This is obviously distressing.

When I click the Skyrim Launcher, I can click on "Play". Once I do, I am greeted by this:

"Failed to Initialize Renderer"

Here are the specs to my laptop:

And my video card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525m

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I've already made sure directx & video card drivers are up to date.

Well, your first problem is expecting anything more advanced than RuneScape to run smoothly on a laptop. If Bethesda has a "supported graphics cards" list somewhere that might be a good idea to look at. I don't think the game's settings are your problem, but if you have the newest drivers, I'm not sure what the next step would be... reinstall the game maybe? Also, does Oblivion work on that laptop?

Skyrim should launch for you...

the 525M scores only 11.5 fps in Unigine 2.1 at 1280x1024 (dx11).

Not a powerful card... about half the power of a 570GTX.

howvever, in dx9 games (ie. skyrim, fallout, oblivion) It will run on low settings at playable FPS.

try to reinstall directx and visualbasic (vcc+)....

both are located in your Skyrim folder.

download and install the latest beta nvidia driver 285.79.

(download, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot... play)

set ALL video settings to 'low and resolution to 1366x768.

DirectX - Reinstalled

Visualbasic - Reinstalled

285.79 - Downloaded the beta. Still nothing.

Video settings are all low. Resolution changed to 1366 - 768

Edit: Got the beta drivers working, but still no skyrim.

However it still will not work. There appears to be a small number of other people experiencing the same issue as me. Thank you for the help you have provided, though!
