Stuck at beginning

Hello,

I just downloaded and installed Skyrim. I start a new game and it loads. After the NPCs talk, I'm stuck just sitting here listening to what sounds like a carriage, but don't see one. The NPCs distance keeps changing if I look around. I am unable to move anything except my perspective. Please help :(

I have the same problem. I meet all the requirements, numerous cosmetics bugs and numerous motion anims don't work either. For example, at the start when the other prisoners are to "get out" of the cart, they all just float down into one spot, the same as The PC does, and don't move. Help me! :(

Alright, 2 things happened.

I switched my steam download site from LA to Phoenix (since I live in Phx... not sure why it keeps changing itself) which prompted steam to reset. Upon doing so, Skyrim started kicking down an update... 1.8gigger. So, while I waited the 10min for it to DL I started tinkering with the "Options" on the *initial* game launcher (NOT within the game). When I clicked on "Graphics Adapter" there was my video card, with it also listed below it. Before this I had just moved to another category. For some reason I clicked on the one below the populated box, and VOILA!

I could now choose 1920x1080 resolution, which was a vast improvement. Previously all of my choices were ODD. A couple of minutes later the patch was done and I started the game.

First thing I noticed:

Initially, the splash screen was this hideous red column with some shading to it and the Bethesda logo next to it. All the menus worked right, so I figured this was just a very very poor design choice.

After the changes/update there was the beautiful Skyrim Dragon Logo with a smokey haze... VAST improvement. The game is now playing and I'm LOVING it!

Hope this helps.

i have found the answer! : I'm too lazy to make an account on the forum, so I'll give the fix here in case you haven't found it. You need the day one patch, I got it when I defragmented the cache files. Basically, you must go on steam (if its on steam) right click skyrim in the library tab click properties, click local files and then click defragment cache files. This is for the 1.1 update, and it worked for me, i hope this might work for you.
