Myst inspired linking books.

Hi there,

and thank you for reading

I'm a big fan of both the Myst series and the Elder Scrolls series.

But i always wanted to make my own Myst worlds.

It would seem that a Linking book is easily scripted in TEScon but so far my limited understanding of scripting has been insufficient.

(i expected to find it as a mod, but so far i haven't found it.)

Linkingbooks would add endless world and quest possibilities and are not likely to break anything.

Could anyone create some books (just the books)

Functions that I have in mind.

Link through the book from world space, Player (+ followers) travel through. book stays behind.

Link through the book from inventory, Player travels through and also takes the book. Followers stay behind.

\ maybe an (dialog) option to let followers go first (or only).

Types of books,

Book to Book, (twin books / brother books)

the book can be placed anywhere, travel from one to the other and back.

Normal linking book

the book links to a precise location (always)

Prison book

can't be taken on linking. (book is dropped if activated from inventory)

otherwise functions as normal.

I hope someone can script these.
it should even be possible to make an clickable image in a book (to activate travel) so that you can also read the description.

But a popup with a 2 second delay would work fine

Thanks

Daniel.

Further notes and ideas.

As a starter for the quest i'm thinking about adding a book with a note to an existing house.

(maybe the hounted house, someware in the basement in the secret room, as if its older than the altar and stuff)

The book is the first linking book, which leads to a study (someware, no exit) with a library. (i have designs)

The library is of course self sorting so it will group worlds that belong togetter. (if labled correctly)

New linkingbooks can be droped on the doorstep of the beforementioned house by a (never to be seen) courier.

Maybe add a option to wrap a book with a note in parchment (unwraping gives book, note and parchment)

then a actual package can be deliverd. (With rope to hold it and fuction as actvator to do the wraping?)
