Xios5
What was going through Bethesda's heads when they decided to make Skyrim Steam-activated? God knows, but I will resist the overwhelming urge to have a massive rant about it. God I'd love to. After the lengthy and problematic install process, I have finally got everything installed, including an update(I have the intelligence to download an update myself thank you, Steam). Great. The game I have been highly anticipating all year is FINALLY ready to play. When you launch a Steam game, a box comes up with "Preparing to launch (name of game)". This happens, as it should, but then Steam begins to start spamming that message, just repeated flashing of "Preparing to launch The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim". Of all the uneccessary and pointless errors and problems I've had from Steam, I've never had anything like this. I don't get it with my other Steam games either, just Skyrim. I really don't want to reinstall, it nearly brought me to suicide twice the first time. If anyone could help me, I would be for ever in their debt, as I am DESPERATE to play Skyrim. Thank you sooooo much to anyone who can help! p.s. Please don't be offended by my anti-Steam propaganda, that's just my personal experience. rgx02
My issue is... How do I mod skyrim since its steam activated... The same way new vegas can be modded, just add the files to the skyrim folder or wait for a mod manager. But you shouldnt worry about it right now, there are no mods yet. Xios5
I'm going to try a reinstall. I will report if it works, asuming my computer can servive Steam's nonsense long enough.
Cozbyr
I too am having this same problem, though you can still play by using the TESV.exe in the Skyrim folder, it just won't let you set up the resolution so it's windowed and you can't change the detail levels. So, it's at least playable. I tried reinstalling and it didn't help, I even backed the game up and restored it, and it didn't fix it. I thought I was the only one who was having this problem. I'll keep trying to figure out why it's doing this. If I find out something, I'll let you folks know. Good luck guys! *Edit* So, I realized I hadn't restarted my PC since I installed it. After restarting it brought up the Skyrim Launcher and all is well. I hope this works for you all! Edited November 14, 2011 by Cozbyr
Xios5
Thank you for everyone's contribution, and doing re-install(not a re-install from the Skyrim menu, an uninstall followed by an install) did work, sorry for not mentioning sooner, I've been having too much fun playing :-)
