Crashes

Having a small problem which is becoming increasingly annoying.

Basically, the game keeps crashing. It's not doing it that often, maybe once every couple of hours or so, but due to the fact that I record my gameplay it kind of messes everything up a little bit.

Managing to get over it but is anyone else having the same issue or does anyone have any recommendations?

It doesn't pop up saying Skyrim has stopped working or anything (Except the first time it happened), it just closes down.

Yup, that is one of the 'undocumented features' of a Bethsoft game. It's reminding you to take a break from time to time. :whistling:

In order to preserve your sanity and your game, be sure to save often.

My own belief is that it is a memory management problem in their game engine. The game does not properly release memory and eventually runs out. Just when it does run out seems to be dependent on various things on different systems. It will run out much faster if you use an integrated video or sound system instead of separate video and sound boards. And of course if you have a lot of background processes running.

Just adding a lot of RAM does not fix it entirely as the game itself will only use a limited amount of memory, even if you use a large memory aware patch.

If you have a 32 bit system, your computer itself is limited to a max of about 3.25Gig of memory - Oblivion was capped at 2GB, but could be extended to 3GB with a patch. The 64 bit system could use up to around 4GB from what I saw. But having more memory, and a large Memory aware patch did allow it to use that entire 4GB for the game as it could use any remaining RAM over 4GB for the operation system and anything else that was running in background.

I suspect that Skyrim will be similar. Not sure if a memory patch will be needed (or if there is one that works yet)

I had the game running sweet as a nut on high settings and then after i found a ship and went to the lowest part and there was a lot of mist, from time to time whenever i went outside my game would start to slow to a crawl so i thought, i'll try medium settings, see how different it is. But since i've switched to medium settings the game is crashing almost every 10-20 minutes!
