Steamed up with DVD

Recommended Posts

I purchased the DVD version of the game.

(1) I run set up and it asks me to say OK to the Terms and Conditions.

(2) Then Steam asks me to OK its terms of conditions

(3) Steam runs for a bit and then says 'Steam.exe (main exception) Error Delete of Steam.exe failed Win32 Error 5 Access is denied'

The Steam.exe file on the hard disk is not write protected

(i) I have tried it in Safe mode

(ii) I have tried it on both Vista and Win7

(iii) I have tried putting the exe in a non-Windows prog directory (in case its permissions)

(iv) The windows account has full admin permissions

(v) I have used the 'Run as Administrator'

Normally when loading an application it all happens automatically - I have never had a problem like this before!

Any ideas?

Sorry, I don't know how to help, I just wanted to say that I feel for you, I also spend over three hours getting Steam to work, but in my case it was a network issue (on their side), where Steam kept connecting and disconnecting with occasional crash. Edited by elvinkun

I have now logged onto Steam (NOT using the game) and set up an empty account.

Then put the DVD into the PC and it seems (early days yet) to be actually installing the game. And from the DVD too which seems to be quite a bonus given that other people have been subjected to it loading via the internet.

I'm assuming that I'm over this hurdle - but - who knows if the game will run without any further issues...

Well its loaded onto the Disk and I asked Steam to load it - and it says it will in (currently) 25 minutes. I'm assuming that there is a download of bug-fixes going on but I am an optimist!
