seasiderben17
Hey guys, I realise this is more a steam error, but I thought I'd come here for some help aswell as the Skyrim forums as currently the Steam forums are down and getting help from them right now would be hard to say the least. Here's the problem, when I try to launch Skyrim through steam, It says the game can't launch error 51. However, if I go into the skyrim folder, and choose to launch the Skyrim exe not the Skyrim Launcher, then i can play the game and I have invested some hours into it. Thep roblem is because I haven't launched hte Launcher yet, the game hasn't auto detected and set up the settings for my system so I have to play in a window 3/4 the size of my screen and have no real choice over what graphics I can set. Here are the following things I have tried: Validating the game files and cache Reinstalling the game Uninstalling and having steam redownload the Clientregistery.blob thing Checked to make sure I have no other programs blocking steam or interfering with it, and running everything as admin (This is what error 51 is supposed to be for). I've tried fiddling with the INI's but to be honest I woulnd't know where to start, and I can only see that as a possible solution to help me enjoy the game properly. Any help would be greatfully appreciated, I've been all over the internet, and this problem seems to be a very tough one to fix, but I'm hoping anyone here can help as the Skyrim forums are overflooded at the moment with other issues. Thanks in advance.
violettowers
Hello - I've been trying the same things (and a ton of fixes for Steam deciding you're not on the net when you are) all day and still haven't managed to install. Really hacked off. Haven't managed to get the game up in a small window though - better than nothing, off to try it in desperation! If you figure it out will you update here? Seen a few old threads across the net where people have the same problem as me then suddenly go "aha, fixed!" and don't say how! Good luck. seasiderben17
If I find anything I'll put it straight back here if you promise to do the same ;). It's extremely irritating and I'm usually quite the steam advocate, but I can see why now so many people were angry about Skryim being on steam. To get it running in the window, just run the Skyrim exe in the skyrim directory, but not the launcher. It is decent enough to play but not what I paid for! :)
saintpeter
I think Steam isn't quite up to the task here , most of the problems point straight to them , I don't even have a Skyrim folder or logo to click on . It's also affecting other programs on my computer . And not being able to play the game when off line really sucks .
