Skyrim and Steam WT?

I've been playing and modding the Morrowind/Oblivion Platforms since the beginning of the platforms but today after buying Skyrim and being forced to log into steam to access the game I am both angry and worried. I used to play the total war series and like Morrowind there was quite a modding community there until steam entered the picture then it stopped. I vowed never to buy another game which forced me to use steam to access my game and yet here I am again. I know that there are many many issues with Skyrim that will only be addressed through our excellent modding community and frankly I have no faith in Bethesda anymore. It will be the modders that make Skyrim a game that we want to play over and over again not Bethesda. After years of modding I have no clue how to mod any game with a steam forced account and I am not sure if I will even be able to get to the base files at all. I would like some info that everyone has on how to mod through steam or even how to eliminate it all together. I am beyond angry that I have to enter into a third party account after I have just bought and paid for the game with no warning on the package at all. Mainly I want to work past my anger and try to begin to make and install mods as soon as the construction engine is available. So any info that you could give here would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to flame right out of the box but we modders have a lot of work to do on Skyrim and we don't need or want steams unwelcome intrusion after supporting this platform for years and years. It is a slap in the face to all the modders who worked so hard to make this platform great.

Well for one, the game files are in the steam folder.

like for me it's E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data

Just need to have a program to open up the BSA files.

And if you looked at the system requirements it says "Internet Connection required for Steam activation"

Have fun modding.

Amen to that. I decided not to preorder the game and will get it later when the price drops. I don't want to pay full-price after them trying to force steam on our throats. I skipped FO:NV completely because of it requiring steam, and I was tempted to do it again if it wasn't because this game, skyrim, is exactly the kind of game I favor in all other areas.

And a note: I have never used steam since I prefer physical copies, so I don't even know if I will have any issues or not. Maybe I will be lucky, but I still don't find the steam requirement very fair considering the amount of problems that has arisen because of it for users, at least judging from all the new topics on the subject.

yes, but unfortunately it doesn't say whether steam will have some unexplainable problems with your specific computer. And as far as I see it, serves no purpose other than annoy their customers. Steam might be great as an option, but as a requirement its just ridiculous.

Thanks for posting the other information though...

Did you even bother looking for the files before assuming mods were dead forever? Go to program files/steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim. Boom. Same file and folder structure we've had since Morrowind.

Sorry if I came off harshly, but Steam is a great platform; allowing for communication, easy updates, reliable backup, and etc. I bought another copy of Oblivion off of steam just so I wouldn't have to deal with discs anymore, and all my (200+) mods worked fine, or at least as well as they did without Steam.

Edit: I made this account just to say this, btw. Steam fo' life!

Well besides my hatred of steam it is the aspect of FORCED participation. In order to start a steam account you have to enter your private information and a credit card number. In case you didn't know steam was totally hacked recently and everything was compromised. All of the personal info, credit card numbers, game info, passwords, everything. I do not want to ever buy a game at the store then be forced to enter into a third party where my personal information can be stolen, plain and simple. I have also had issues with steam while trying to play the total war games I bought and waited for a week to access my games because steam had some sort of system problem which pervented me from accessing my game. They have no support what so ever and it took them a week to even contact me about my issue. I never played that total war game again nor did I ever use steam. It's fine if anyone out there wants to but it is none of their business what I do on my game or when I play it, etc. this is total bs and big brother is watching.......I did find the files of Skyrim what few there were so hopefully once I get a tool i can access the bsa's. But even that is total crap here and the texture/mesh/etc. files should be readily available.

Hey just wanted to say thanks for the info about where the data files were on the steam Skyrim. I just have never modded a steam game and I just did not know where the data files were located so thanks a lot. I didn't want to seem ungratefull for the info or criticism I know many of you guys know a lot more than I do so that's why I asked on the forums. I am pretty angry about this but I'll get over it and then get to work making you guys some great mods to use. (under a different name) I just like my privacy. But any flamers or correctors flame on that's how we learn no malice or anger towards you guys here.
