Door/Gate closing slow.

Just looked through the past 10 pages of technical questions and didn't find this one. Using mod OOO 1.31 and the hot key expander most gameplay has gone well. Recently, "moving" doors and gates have slowed down to a crawl. Also, magic spells mists, bubbles, and the like take 15-30 seconds to disappear off screen. (Use to take 1 second) Creature and character movement seems to be fine. Inventory, equipment/spells scrolling, seem fine also.

Here's the head scratcher: I can load a much earlier game and everything works as it should. I'm using a NIVDA 250meg card and it has been fine. Could a quest or weapon be slowing things down? It only seems to affect only moving doors and magic "prettys". Charaters can not pass though the door or gate untill its open.

Any Ideas?

This sounds like the infamous 'stuck animation' bug. It usually occurs when you have played for over 200 hours and slows down things like doors and chests opening. After a while it slows them down so much you might as well go get something to eat while waiting for a chest to open.

There are several fixes. The one I use is called OAF by Robert K. Guy. stands for Oblivion Animation Fixer.

Be sure to read the readme as this is NOT a mod but a executable patch that must be run from outside of the game.

Good luck

I haven't had problems with the chests yet but I will try to locate the patch. Thanks for the tip. One thing I did notice is it seems to appear more when I do the Dark Brotherhood Quests. (That'll teach me to be evil) :wallbash:

Wrye Bash works, too: Link

Would like to use Wrye Bash but after 10 different steps and getting the correct files unloaded into the proper directories my brain turns to mush. I know there are many out there who are hackers, program designers, and plain old computer geeks. I just want to play a game with as little hassel as possible. I want the big adventure in the game itself not in adjusting the solftware. Guess I'm getting too old, but I need someone to connect the dots for me. If I do a proceedure "exactly" as described I sometimes find out the "other" stuff needed to make it happen.

I do thank you for your advice and I may try to install it when I have an entire weekend free. :thanks:

Yessss!!!! The Oblivion Animation Fixer worked! "Only" took me 3 times to figure out how to make it work. Noticed one minor glitch a bit later in the game but after a reload all is working as advertised. Thanks for the help and I'll pass it on when someone else has a similar problem. :thanks:
