[IDEA/Req] Active Assassins & Theives

It annoyes me to see that assassins and theives are only active when your doing the quests for each faction.

 

Why not make a mod that puts pick pockets in city market areas and con artists in dark ally ways and theives looking for their next big score at night?

 

How about the getting contract on your head or witness assassins at work in the shadows.???

the assassin thing would most likley happen after you complete the dark brotherhood quests

being part of a rival assassin guild would tend to genrate some anamosity with other guilds i would imagine

or like the vampire thing it could happen at random like you wake up in your house in one of the cities and find a note of warning or somehting lake that.

 

A mark of an assassin ? you may find a bloodied knife or an arrow in your door or even better a horse head in your bed :-P

Or an NPC might run up to you while your in a city and warn you or hand you a blooddied token or something... so many ways to do it.

 

Like the thieves you could be sleeping in a house that you own and have it cut short with a prompt saying "you awaken to a sound in the darkness" and then your awake and you find some sneaky npc in your lounge trying to lift your 46" plasma tv out the window (True story ... we got him good)

 

It sounds like alot of work and no doubt the hardest part would be the scripting and creation of the npc's but i think it can be doable ... pitty the only thing im really good at is trouble shooting unix server and playing games ... I can throw some concept art together i used to be able to sktch ok.

I still can't really think of a way to do Assassins that doesn't make it "B-Movie Ninja" style. That is to say, they may or may not sneak into your general vicinity, then attack you head on screaming. A similar prinicple would be in place if they attacked in your sleep. Either A: message "Your throat was slit in your sleep", you die, which just isn't fun, or B: you wake up with him standing over you and duke it out. Though, now that I think about it, waking up poisoned could be a nice middle-ground. The "Mark of the Assassin" parts would still be insane to code, though, especially if you didn't want to add NPCs for that sole purpose, though I suppose it's not necessary at all.

 

If there were thieves, with my modding skill, they would only be able to "steal" one type of item. So, only gold coins or silver urns or flawed rubies or something. And I don't know how that would work with sneaking into houses...

I'm currently looking into systems that would allow for theft and or assassination attempts on the player for an upcoming mod. Most of these systems however probably require some things which are only possible in an area seperate from the rest of the world, or atleast would work better if they were. The problem with trying to make it apply to the whole world is that there aren't many places an NPC might sneak up behind the player, and each of those would have limited use. One could go with the Tribunal method, and just place a wouldbe assassin or thief in the same room as the player, but that's kinda a cop out. But I really don't even know how well, or to what extent any of this works yet. I can see how the pieces would interact, I just can't see how well, or if there is anything I didn't considder.

Well think a bit about the assassin part , I think waking up with some random dude starring right into your face and then attacks you would be fun,

Take for example Lynges Dark brotherhood assassins (http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8654) it's brilliant just a lack of reality and

storyline.

 

My idea is to make something similar to lynges assassin mod , Maybie that you wake up after making some quest involving actions against

a guild/race/person/clan or similar , maybie killing a few murders or something, and then a mark of some kind maybie an...Weapon or it could

be anything typically representing a guild/race/person/clan (...Gah....) and then do what lynges has done (Example=Once i exited the skingrad castle and found a note on the middle of the bridge , i took it up and it said ''HAHAHAHA You're going to die now so enjoy the view while you can'' and suddenly the gate was sealed , the bar thiny fell down so there were like no escape and then assassins appeared and attacked me) with his mod , Adding small cinamatic

thingy stuffs (It's kinda hard to explain but try the mod and see for yourself).

 

But now of course the assassins will have their own ways , like murders probably wouldn't set this up , they would just..like kill you. Well i hope you get my point i'm kinda in a hurry , I will edit and explain more about my crazy idea's later ;) (Btw sorry for my lack of english , Im only 13 years old and english aren't my mother language ^^ )
