Hello then

Sniperwhere

Recommended Posts

I guess I should have introduced myself by now. My name is Sniperwhere and I am a digital artist and TES fan. I run a small, insignificant graphics forum and and love a good image. I also play a lot of games and like any game that can scare me or make me jump. I'm on about 40 or more forums; small, large, and dead alike. I have made a small version of Pong on a program called DarkBasic(PM me if you'd like to see it.) And finally, I'm a one of a kind grammar nazi. I may spontaniously proof-read peoples posts if they are really bad. Good day.

Welcome to the forums, have fun, don't spam, and here is your complimentary fishystick;

DarkBasic... I've always wondered why they didn't just make one version of basic, rather than having literally hundreds of different variations which are all, essentially, the same. It's very strange, I've never understood it myself. anyway, well done making a game with it, that's more than I've ever managed :)

Ooh. Fishystick. :thanks:

I just use DB because it's the first engine I found. I also wonder about the amount of versions. And the game is very primitive. The AI is as dumb as a bucket of chicken.

Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome and enjoy the forums etc. etc.

HOWEVER before you set yourself up as an arbiter of good grammar you might like to check the above quote which contains one spelling error and one grammar error. It is not by any stretch of the imagination 'really bad' but you wouldn't want to be accused of double standards I'm sure.

BTW I am not a grammar-nazi myself but I am leery of those correct others. Don't forget, many who use the forums do not have English as a native tongue.

Okay, so I make a few errors myself. But it's the nightmarishly bad stuff that gets to me. It's also kinda a hobby to proof-read other posts but I won't if that's a problem. And I never said I was an arbiter of good grammar. I was simply stating that I dislike hard-to-read material.

Wow. This admitance topic has turned into a discussion of grammar and what not.

40 forums!? :ohmy: And I thought five was a lot...

We seem to have quite a bit in common; I, too, made Pong in a version of Basic. However, I used QBasic, a version of Quick Basic. The reason there are so many different kinds of Basic, is because it sucks, but is incredibly easy. Beginner programmers almost always start with a type of Basic, because it is easy, but they can't do much as it sucks, as I already said. For instance, in my version of Pong, I couldn't get the AI to work properly; the two player version was perfect, but the AI sucked--I mean, there was no AI. :wallbash: I also made a version of Space Invaders if that's of any consequence. :thumbsup: (Don't bother asking me to send it to you, however, I lost it.) I do, however, have something I can give you: FishyGame It was my final project for my Computer Concepts class. :smile: The instructions are in the game, except I forgot to add two: push Pause/Break to pause, and any other key (except Pause/Break) to continue. I didn't actually program this in; it's there by default. :biggrin: , and Esc to exit the game (at least, I think this is the version with Esc...)

Also, If you haven't noticed from this post, I, too, love grammar. I proofread every post I make to make sure everything is spelled correctly (Firefox helps me with that. :happy: ) and follows every grammar rule, no matter how insignificant.

Wow...I typed a lot...sorry! :blush:

That is the exact reason that I try not use abbreviations, contractions, acronyms or slang terminology. On some forums I often find myself in a conversation with someone who is German, Chamorro or other nationality and I want to make sure everything goes through the translator easily.

Well, I got my start on a forum for a game that's mostly played by those in the US and in England. So a majority of them used good English grammar and spelling. So I guess you can say there's a bit of Metanet(name of that forum) influence on me. :rolleyes:
