Fallout: Skyrim

I have played a bit more now and no, it is not fallout 3 completely. I was wrong in that regard. But no matter what anyone else may say, it is indeed a dumbing down. Go back to morrowind and look at the skills and the intricate play involved in the quests (given the video, etc. quality for the time period.....go to Oblivion and look at the planning involved in leveling up, and yes I also play a heavily modded Oblivion....) Now go to skyrim and just play and it all magically happens. Just play and the level ups magically appear (wow....just like fo3). Give me a break. When one is playing a role playing game like the elder scrolls, part of the fun is the collecting, the planning ahead, etc. Now everything just happens automatically and in a very pretty manner. Boring. Yes the fighting is "cooler" and the special effects are great, but the role playing aspect is severely depleted.

You're nitpicking. Yes, they removed attributes, but they added a whole perks system. Not only that, we can now make our own weapons and armor, we have a nifty Shout system, dungeons have actual puzzles in them, dungeons are interesting and you actually have an incentive to explore the map and combat is entirely overhauled so you actually have to use your brains when fighting. I'm sorry, but how is the removal of attributes and a set class system grounds for being 'dumbed down' when they added so much other new stuff? If anything is dumbed down, it's Oblivion. It's by far the worst in the series. Oblivion might have had attributes, but it was a giant map filled with dungeons that all looked the same, a retarded levelling system and a combat system that involved *click click click win*.

Skyrim improves upon Oblivion in every way possible. It might not be as complex as Morrowind, but it's not even nearly as dumbed down as Oblivion was.

I recommend setting the difficulty to maximum. In my game mobs are deadly and brutal. You do have to plan what you will level up and what you won't. If you level up on fluff skills or broad range of skills then eventually your character can't go toe to toe with mobs at his own level. You actually do have to plan out your skills and focus on leveling up only those.

Vanilla Skyrim is much, MUCH better then Vanilla Oblivion, even though the dumbing down really hurts me inside (I'm a hardcore Morrowind fan) I still must agree that the game itself is just simply better. I really wish they would leave attributes, zoodiak signs, athletics skill and a couple of other things in though. Also as everyone else stated already the interface is terrible, the ability too watch the item model is cool but other then that there is no good things about it, it was designed for consoles not for PC's. Oh, and the font is IMO completely not fitting. It's too modern looking and immersion breaking. Edited by Martin126X

I'm loving the game... but when outside white run, I keep thinking I'm playing fallout!

Either a texture has been reused, or a plant!

Oh god not this whine again... "OMG they reused a plant! Its the same plant they used 405654 times before! I demand individual plants!"

lol Seriously though, this game has been dumbed down a tiny bit, but not to such a drastic level that its Fallout 3: Skyrim.

ALSO: I am a gamer that spends so much time modding the game that I get bored of it after modding it. Skyrim Vanilla doesnt have that effect on me. While I am using some of the mods I have found on here, I dont feel the need to use every single mod I can before I find the game enjoyable.

It's Bethesda, they've been improving on the previous games for YEARS to get here. I think its a MUCH better design strategy rather then just re-inventing everything each release. It DOES feel a bit like Fallout... but in an awesome and unique way. I think you just need to play it more, Skyrim is SOOOOO much more then Fallout.
