Mauro87
So my laptop processor hit 86c last night after playing for around 2 hours. After doing a little bit of research I found out there's no command to limit FPS in the Skyrim console, I've even checked the .ini and couldn't find anything in there either. I came across an FPS limiter on this site but I have a laptop with Nvidia Optimus and the mod would cause the game to run with intel graphics rather than the dedicated geforce card. I was wondering if there's any other alternative to cap my FPS? I have vsync on but my card consistently gets 60 frames and this still puts major strain and causes high temperatures. I'm trying to set a limit to around 35ish, is there any alternative to get this to work properly, or perhaps get the FPS Limiter on this site to use the dedicated GPU? Any help would be appreciated. gsparx
I am having this exact same problem. Just googled the problem and came across this. Anyone have ideas? Have you tried contacting the maker of the fps limiter?
Mauro87
I am having this exact same problem. Just googled the problem and came across this. Anyone have ideas? Have you tried contacting the maker of the fps limiter? I personally haven't contacted the maker of the fps limiter mod but I guess it's the best idea at the moment since I've yet to find a workaround for us optimus users. Annyways I did however find a way to lower my temperatures by 7 degrees. It's all in the power options, first click on your battery icon then "more power options". Select "change plan settings" for the "balanced" profile. From there choose "Change advanced power settings". In the new window that opens up expand "processor power management" and then expand "maximum processor state". Change both the "on battery" and "plugged in" options from 100% to 99%. This worked for me, basically by setting it at 99% your processor will never run at full speed on this setting, you'll take a slight fps hit - for me it was around 2 fps but my temps are much cooler. I'd still like to find an alternative so I can just limit the fps and play Skyrim without melting my laptop. Tytanis
If you turn on V-sync, your FPS will never go above 60 (which is what you're trying to achieve here). Also, if you have nVidia, set the pre-rendered frames to 2.

My laptop constantly pushing out 60fps will kill the processor in a matter of weeks which is what we're trying to prevent.

w00t692
You think 86C is going to kill it in a matter of weeks? My 8800gt ran at 88C for 2 years in my desktop. My gtx 260 ran at 82c for the longest time. 86C is not going to smoke your laptop in a matter of weeks, mostly becuase laptop components are made to work in even higher temperatures. Protocol117
I would very much like to limit my FPS as well, not because of heat, My 8800 GT is a beast. lolI'm sick of the random stuttering i'm getting. Sadly I can't figure out how to get the FPS limiter mod to work with my FXAA. Any ideas?
GisleAune
The CPU can handle around 100*C, and will shut down once you hit it, so don't worry.
Rennn
Most ENB mods have a built-in limiter that you can set to whatever you want. Just disable all the graphics effects and use the cap function. I doubt it would hurt your framerate much, if at all, with every effect disabled.
