How can I mod Skyrim?

Skyrim is in your Steam directory, which is probably either C:/Program Files/Valve/Steam/ or C:/Program Files/Steam/. From there, Skyrim is in steamapps/common/skyrim/. There should be a Data folder there. That's where you want to put your mods. Edited by Brianide

Click on Data Files in the launcher, and if it has a esp it should be in there, double click it to activate. Then start your game to experience whatever you did to it.

i downloaded the mod into the correct folder but it does not show in the data files for activation. please help

You only need to switch on .esp modifications. If you downloaded a texture mod, or any modification designed to override the original Skyrim files then no activation is required, the game will automatically use whatever is in the data folder, assuming the directory structure is correct.. You have to make sure you include all subfolders if applicable, for example "Data\textures\actors\character".

Hope this helps :)

I downloaded a couple of mods I want to try for Skyrim; but I can't find the main file on my computer. I've looked all over the place. This is agonizing. Can someone tell me how to mod this game? Thanks. ;)

Just Open SkyrimPrefs.ini. File in:

...\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

Find [Launcher] and add this line below it:

bEnableFileSelection=1

It should help :)

Hi everyone,

It appears I have the same problem.

Maybe I'm dumb but I'm quite sure to have done everything right (at least everything that have been explained in this thread).

For example :

1) I downloaded the add-on "Beauty Faces".

2) I extracted the file in the Data directory ( ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data\ )

3) According to the Add-on, I have now the following subdirectories (with data files in it) :

- ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data\textures\actors\character\female\

- ...\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data\textures\actors\character\character assets\tintmasks\

4) I have checked in the file "...\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini" and the command line "bEnableFileSelection=1" is present, just under [Launcher].

5) Then I launch the game, and load a saved game : The add-on has no effect at all.

Do I miss anything ? or is there something weird ?

Do I need to be on a specific texture level (By default I'm on Medium)

Thanks in advance for your answers.
