CSE not starting

I installed the CSE as per the instruction and it just wont run. It starts up the vanilla CS instead. I'm running Windows 10.

Also, for some reason I can't edit the door markers. When I select to edit them it just teleports me to the linked door.

Any help on either matter would be appreciated

How are you launching it? Did you install all the prerequisites mentioned in the manual? Did you install it manually (dumb question, yes, but still...)? Where did you install it to? If you installed it inside Program Files, it will refuse to launch. If you did not install all the prerequisites mentioned in the manual, it will probably fail to launch. If you are not starting it with the "start CSE" batch file, it will not run.

Double-clicking the teleport marker sends you to the other one of the pair, if I remember correctly. You can only move the teleport marker around. To change the door to teleport to, you need to change it in the actual door reference. The teleport marker is just a marker that can be moved. If I temember correctly, that is.

Hopefully that helps a little.

I'm going to uninstall CSE and CS and try from scratch, however I'm sure I followed the manual.

I'n regards to the teleport markers, there are two buttons, one to teleport to the linked door, and the other to move the marker. Both buttons are teleporting me to the target door

Going back to the original post..what do you mean by edit the door marker? Are you trying to change which door the teleport marker leads to? Or just changing the position of the door marker.

Contra has it right either way. To edit the destination of a teleport marker you double click the actual door and use the pop up menu. To simply edit location of the teleport marker, grab it and move it manually. There is no menu option I am aware of for editing position of the teleport marker. The only two related options you get from the door ref menu are "View Linked Door" and "View Teleport Marker". Both will essentially take you to the other end of the wormhole so to speak. The only difference is in which item is actively selected by your cursor when you arrive...the door or the teleport marker.

So for example if you click on the exterior door at Wawnet Inn and select "View Teleport Marker", the CS (or CSE) takes you to Wawnet Inn interior and the door teleport marker is actively selected. If you chose the other option the door itself would be selected.

Maybe a little repeating, but to sum it up:

  • before you unpack the archive, make sure to unblock it (properties, tick the "unblock" below "read-only" and such, then click apply)
  • make sure Oblivion + CS + CSE are installed outside any Program Files directories, Program Files and Program Files (x86), because it will not run inside them
  • make sure all the files that came in the download were installed (excluding readmes if you want them elsewhere)
  • check that you really have all the prerequisites installed for CSE (like the VC++ 2015 redistributables)
  • make sure you use the "Launch CSE.bat" in your game folder (do not click any executables)
  • check the Construction Set Extender log generated in the game folder, if it fails to launch, see if it has any info

That is odd, it launches just fine for me. Before version 7.1 or so I was even able to run it inside Program Files (x86) in XP sp3 mode (the batch file), but I have it installed elsewhere now, and have not even had that issue. Strange. The log file should have some info. If there is no log file generated, the CSE is not starting at all.

You need to run it with Admin rights.

On both TESConstructionSet.exe and obse_loader.exe: Right click -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Enable "Run as Admin"

Was the log file created? In the same folder as Oblivion.exe, there should be a log file by the name of "Construction Set Extender" or such. If that one was created, you can read the contents because it should report you any issues, and maybe paste it here (in a spoiler tag). Also, as forli said, you should run - at the very least - the obse_loader.exe as administrator, but if you do not, the program should tell you to do that, either in a popup window or the log file (it was popup for me, I think).

Are you using the correct version of the CS? The 1.2 one and not 1.0 because they are right next to each other on the official website.
