New Engine = smoke and mirrors?

I'm really enjoying Skyrim but graphically it can't hold a candle to the gfx in The Witcher 2.

The Witcher 2 is an absolutely amazing looking game to be fair, but on the other hand it's not a fair comparison. Though Witcher 2 is open-ended, it doesn't deal with nearly the same type of scope in terms of environments.

As a general point, people seem to be expecting that sort of level graphics from Skyrim and it's just not possible at the moment and if it was, it'd wreck even the top spec PCs.

Imagine a Skyrim vista, fully traversable, with Witcher 2 graphics. Sounds amazing but it's just not a good idea with the level of technology we're currently at.

the graphics are jaw dropping EXCEPT they are uneven. Up close, most walls look ... poor. And people look both amazing (their faces, GINORMOUS improvement) and awful (their shoulder pads and sleeves look blocky like 640 resolution). I'm at 1080p with ultra (except for shadows which always seems to give my computers issues for some reason). It's true. It's very uneven. Both AMAZING and disappointing.

If your game doesn't look like this you are doing something wrong.

P.S. The creation engine is only a modified version of the gamebryo engine, it's not smoke and mirrors but absolutely old technology mixed with new, it works fine but could have been better.

Re: the first shot: I now have my new wallpaper.
