bben46
When looking at ratings such as the ones at metacritic I immediately throw out any zero or 1 as well as any 9 or 10 as those are usually biased for some reason. The 9 & 10 scores are typically by either fanboys or people who haven't actually played it yet. How can you legitimately rate a game before playing it all the way through? One I saw actually said they hadn't even got the game but rated it a 10 because it was so wonderful. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f351/charonn0/ohgeez-1.gif The 0 & 1 s are those who have likely been unable to play, have had serious problems, or have some particular game glitch that kills it for them. Many have problems with steam, their system or with installing and not the game at all. :whistling: The ones I do pay attention to are the scores between 2 and 8 and especially those that show some actual thought. As for the UI, typically I see people playing with an xbox controller love it and most of those with a keyboard (not all) hate it. Most of the posters at Metacritic are console players not PC players so they don't see the problems with the UI. Some of them don't even realize the UI complaints are from a PC users that do not use a xbox controller.
gamefever
Some of my thoughts. Consul UI verse Computer UI To be clear I think ppl that gripe on this should state UI set ups that they expect more clearly such as it should be like "WOW" or Mech Warrior back in the day where I could bind every key on my key board to an action plus use shift, ctrl, and alt keys to assign 3 more alternate actions to my keybindings... Sorry guys I've been there done that played those games did fine with memorizing my key bindings and whooping butt taking names but no one in their right mind is going to develop new games for that sort of mentality it goes against making sales there just are not enough ppl out there with cash that want to learn that meny keys to play games and yes I've done played those games and had to learn crazy key maps and it may seem cool but its really not. I think down rating the game on this "gripe" is nuts. CoDTook me forever to realize this was "Call of Duty" never played it, prob never will, and why on earth is it used as a benchmark for an rpg...? Please don't explain it to me really. This Games so Buggy Whine it Crashes.I'll start with and in which world have you ever had a Bethsada product that was not buggy at launch... Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas take your pick...Oh but xyz never suffered crashes... really huh never heard of that game must not have been worth playing. About the only game I can think of that wasn't buggy for me was Halo and I feel aweful bringing that up in a thread for an rpg game. Most good games I've played had some serious game breaking bugs coupled with constant freezes and CTD's ala Fallout 1, Mechwarrior, Wing Commander 3...ect....Sigh to be honost Fallout 1 was nearly as bugged as Sots2 at release. Graphics are so ConsulMy consul doesn't run this well but then again I played my consuls into the ground and they don't run at all anymore. Moreover I'm really thrilled that consuls are doing so well and that the video game market is doing so well. Complaining that games are made for consuls is about as dumb an argument as it gets...Yes they are made for consuls and thats good. Means they can't get away with releasing a game that's totally unplayable at launch. Also who's seroiusly going to gimp their profits in this day and age. Prettiness of characters. As an artist I can tell you it takes skill to make people look that good as dirty as they are and to be honest they have that rosatia on the cheeks down pat god are they Fugly! that said they have done it really well and though you or I may not find it to our liking we were not there in the trenches makeing the desicions on the textures with the artist's so hey whatever they did great. Combat in gameI'm seeing a lot of complaints about a game that runs and is enjoyable without overhauling it with mods. To be honest I didn't like the prevoius titles felt they fell really short on the combat when you compared them to other current games in their time. This game has just enough umph in it's combat that I can see myself wanting to mod this and play it again. StoryI think other fans of Fallout are having a hard time with it just like I am. See the Elder Scrolls have never really captured my imagination like the nuclear threat did, which was a real threat. Mods These are a double edged sword. I'm not a fan of we have to make the game better becuase they failed comments. The game is fine that said I can see myself installing photoshop and retexing some mage robes so that my mage doesn't look so god aweful poor standing next to Lydia in her polished Steel armour. I also can't wait for the construction set first thing I'm going to do is make it so children can't talk at all!!! I'd have to say the only thing about this game that I really dislike is the way that NPC's in general are so sensitive to dishing out random comments...Even when I'm speaking to someone or in the middle of a scripted event a guy has to walk up to me and comment on my toon...Seroiusly they need to shut up. StormTemplar
Some of my thoughts. I think down rating the game on this "gripe" is nuts.Agreed. The UI is just less noobfriendly. You want noobfriedly games go CoD. CoDTook me forever to realize this was "Call of Duty" never played it, prob never will, and why on earth is it used as a benchmark for an rpg...? Please don't explain it to me really. While I agree CoD sucks, please to know such games before you jump into game reviews, you lose credibility like this. Most good games I've played had some serious game breaking bugs coupled with constant freezes and CTD's ala Fallout 1, Mechwarrior, Wing Commander 3...ect....Sigh to be honost Fallout 1 was nearly as bugged as Sots2 at release. It's not a valid argument to say that Skyrim isn't buggy because previous Bethesda games weren't. There's millions of games, you can't just say a game is good because it is compared to three others. Skyrim crashes on my computer when I'm recording sometimes, it's annoying and it doesn't happen in my other games. How is being an artist related to character creation skill? I'm an artist too and I can tell you there's people out there who own me at character creation. Because they learned to master it. I don't think you studied character creation on Skyrim when you studied arts, so what's the argument here? Using your "rank" as an argument is arrogant anyhow. Also, I found character creation much easier than on Oblivion. I don't really get the last part of your sentence. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about a game that runs and is enjoyable without overhauling it with mods. To be honest I didn't like the prevoius titles felt they fell really short on the combat when you compared them to other current games in their time. This game has just enough umph in it's combat that I can see myself wanting to mod this and play it again.A lot of things aren't viable in combat, like dual wielding or playing with various defence spells, because not being able to block and having to stop the battle 50 times to change spells is annoying. StoryI think other fans of Fallout are having a hard time with it just like I am. See the Elder Scrolls have never really captured my imagination like the nuclear threat did, which was a real threat. What's the link between the nuclear threat and Skyrim here? These are a double edged sword. I'm not a fan of we have to make the game better becuase they failed comments. The game is fine that said I can see myself installing photoshop and retexing some mage robes so that my mage doesn't look so god aweful poor standing next to Lydia in her polished Steel armour. The irony is massive here. So first you say you don't like mods, and then you go whining about characters talking in game and your squire or whatever having a better looking armour? How can you critiscise modders and then mod things that are even more insignificant? Edited November 14, 2011 by StormTemplar
