Off the Map

So I was in Andale and started to walk South, to where the map ends, or so I thought. I found I could just keep walking in this barren wasteland...until I fell into a lake. Where did that come from? Anyone else found it? How about a mod that increases the map so we can have someplace to relaxe?? Think I shall keep walking to see how far you can actually go. I have found unused bits of the map inside the game confines before, but not like this with something in it. Don't suppose the lake is associated with a mod already?

I don't think so. There are craters and test spaces out there, too. It takes a mod to unlock them, of course, but they exist, yes ;)

If you can get outside the normal confines of other places, like Anchorage, Megaton, or The Pitt there are other worlds entirely... mostly empty flat expanses of nothingness, but sometimes there is a gem or two.

To my knowledge no one has done anything with the spaces out there. There is probably around 8x more land surrounding the defined areas than there is in the Capitol Wasteland, proper.

@Jeoshua

Now wouldn't that be something, a mod giving 8x more area to explore. As I went further found a bigger lake that almost reminded me of Lake New Vegas.

@AlfredTetzlaff

Yes, been there, thought it was a nice mod that, I'll have to download it again, I think it has had an update or two since then. Thanks for reminding me.

The Librarian - Orions Gate as mentioned be AlfredTetzlaff is off the map, although you had fast travel to it, well you did the first time I did a playthrough, and do I recall seeing another mod that was also 'off the map'?

Would be great for a team of talented modders to open up that area, but I supose the game is getting on a bit now, what with FONV and Skyrim on its way.

A bit more work than just spawn points and trees would need to be done.

The borderlands already contain a good bit of geography, so as to be seen in the LOD by people who get close. But once you go over that hill...

BAM! Nothingness. No trees, no grass, no rocks, nothing.

So while there is 8x as much land, there is often literally nothing out there.

It IS a big blank beautiful LOD-meshed canvas, tho.

Actually there is a mod that allows you to explore beyond the borders ... after activating it, I ran for several days until I came to the "edge of the world" ... it seems that the Capital Wasteland is surrounded by an ocean.

I ran East from Cantebury Commons I think it was ... I can't remember the mods name at the moment but if you type in the word "borders" into Fallout 3 Nexus mods download section it should pop up..
