You're certainly an inquisitive little hollow. I haven't really chosen any "sets"; just getting what I want as I want it, I suppose. As a sort of tradition, my first character is always the race most appropriate for the setting (Dunmer in TES: III, etc.), so I'm a Nord. As for levelling, I typically swing my sword at butterflies and torchbugs instead of just picking them out of the air. I don't know if that affects skill level, but it's still entertaining. I also gather up materials en masse then go on crafting binges, gaining several levels at a time. Next, I don't really think it's that big of a change. Sure, you don't preset your most important skills, but how you play will eventually develop into a skillset anyway, so if anything, it's just the same process in reverse. And finally, the crossover, as you call it, is really exciting. I feel like I have a lot more control over the type of person I am in-game, since, just like in reality, not every practitioner of the same art exercises his or her craft in the same way, or even to the same end.
