BenKenobe
I have always enjoyed Bethesda's work, I have all the Elder Scrolls, finally Skyrim appeared this morning. Installed said DVD and I will not be installing Skyrim - EVER. I will not tolerate or accept Steam or any other 'phone home' derivative. Now the place I purchased it from refuse to accept its return using the 'you broke the seal' excuse and yet nowhere on the cover is it made clear that steam is a prerequisite - had I known this I would never have purchased. Anyone want to purchase said DVD & 'pre-order' map .....

Max3078
Next time read the back of the box. It will save you $60 Edit: There are also some programs that will allow you to run steam in "Sandbox". Edited November 14, 2011 by Max3078
nic1357890
steam uses a tiny amount of resources, takes 10 seconds to download and install, doesnt intrude on you when playing, can be set to offline mode after install so you can literally forget its even there, is great for screenshotting (saves screenshots in JPEG format by default), has great deals and offers on games every day, has decent forums and community, and you even get team fortess 2 for free. whats the problem? MikhailFaulken
What really boils my nuts is the implication that steam is some kind of DRM machine. "Phone home derivative"?! I think you might have steam confused with origin, bro.
FoolyFooly
So, whats your point? Nobody cares if you're not gonna play the game, the rest of us are busy having fun.

Seriously though, if you turn that on, then nothing on-line on steam will load. Same with origin. Of course, the big question is: Why the hell are you worried when you're using likely Windows Update anyway?

I was simply pointing out if he doesn't want Steam to gather and sell his info run a sandbox program. I have Origin running in my Avastsandbox, weather or not its actually working is another question. He probably didn't read the terms & conditions for his copy of Windows as well. eeh whatever. I have nothing to hide but I prefer to keep anything and everything out of my privacy because its none of their damn business, if some of it gets through then oh well.
