devonapple
There was a mod created awhile back, before Far Harbor, called "Settlement Aid" (spoilers). Without going into too much detail, it included a holotape which accessed a number of TERM assets, each of which had an array of text displays which displayed or not based on a few variables. I used FO4Edit (for initial setup, master file establishment, and cleanup) and Creation Kit (for actually updating the TERM assets). I was successfully able to edit these TERM assets in the .esp, adding in sections for the three Far Harbor settlements, and replacing the original .esp with my new version, and if it was just intended for me, that would suffice. But if I wanted to post it for others, I am guessing that it is better to post patches of another person's mod, rather than to just outright replace it. For such a small mod, maybe that is naive? I've put in a note to the original author, but the mod may no longer be a priority for them. Has anyone had luck patching one or more TERM sub-entries in a greater TERM structure?Or is it always better to replicate the whole TERM structure? Is it better just to copy and revise the mod? Any help appreciated.
steve40
No, you need to get permission from the author first, even for patches. If you can't contact them or get a response, then assume their answer is NO.
devonapple
Sure, steve40. Done! For the sake of intellectual exercise and practice, I would still appreciate any technical suggestions, with the caveat that nothing for this mod is getting posted without the author's permission. devonapple
The original mod author has kindly released this mod into the wild, so it appears to be open for changes.Any have advice on a patch option? Or is the rebuilt .esp the best option? Edited July 2, 2016 by devonapple
