ElmoKills22
So this is the first time iv ever really used mods, and i have a few problems. Here is what I am doing which seems to be the directions on most all mods, but for some reason non of them work.I download the zip file and place it in the data folder from Program Files (x86)>Steam>steamapps>common>skyrim>Datathen I select "Extract Here" on the mod's zip file and it extracts. But then when I go to "data files" in the game menu there are no mods, even when I click "load loose files" they dont work, and iv downloaded about 6 mods.can someone please tell me what im doing wrong or what I need to do first to get them to work. Smosh
No. You need to extract the zip file from where ever you downloaded it to first. You then place the Data folder of that file into your Skyrim folder. It will tell you that you already have a Data folder. Just go ahead anyway. Sometimes the mods when extracted don't have that structure but may just say Textures or Meshes for example. You would place those into the Skyrim/Data folder. Hope that makes sense. Rennn
What he said. Plus, those are just replacers. You don't need to go into the data files menu for mesh or texture replacers, or for ini tweaks. The data files option is useless until the Construction set releases. However, do what the person above me said with the data files folder. Edited November 15, 2011 by Rennn
GileadMaerlyn
What you did is correct. (what Smosh tells is correct too) In fact, the construction set is not released yet and the only available mods are mostly retexturing. They are all a change in the data resources of the game and don't need to be managed in the data menu when installed. The data menu is only for mods that changes the game behaviors, you need it for a mod that changes a quest for example, not for a mod that changes the look of an existing armor. That's why you didn't see anything in your data menu, but the mods should be installed. If not, you should check the folders of your mods, some have a Data folder in the zip, to you need to extract them in the Skyrim folder, some have directly Meshes or Textures folders and need to be extracted in the Data folder (what you did). Pay attention to the instruction of the mod you want to install, and as son as it is in the right place, it is installed. ElmoKills22
Ok, so I extract the zip to its own folder in my downloads folder, then i take the whole folder and put it in the Data, i did this with 4 differnt mods, and it did not work for any of them, do i take the whole folder or the sub folders? or just the files? You need to extract the .bsa with FOMM (you can find it on new vegas nexus) and edit the textures with a dds plugin for photoshop or gimp. The texture needs to be placed at its normal location in the data folder (FOMM will extract the complete arborescence), and not in the .bsa file, don't edit it.
