Xenoshi
I actually experienced a valid yield at one point; I was fighting a troll and a Nord woman came running and helped me. Afterwards, she insulted me, I insulted her and we started fighting. I was winning, and she was almost dead, and yielded, so I sheated my weapon. Amazingly, she stood up, sheated her weapon and went on her way. I am not sure what the trick is, but yields appearantly does work if the stars align properly. That actually...kind of makes sense? If you sheathed your weapon it showed that you were letting them off? Did anyone else try sheathing their weapons? I must test this.

Ashbean
i've tried on multiple occasions to sheathe my weapon when they yield- hasn't worked on bandits , but it seems to work on others more often, including some random thief that accosted me in the road. My guess is there is some kind of hidden 'courage' attribute for NPCs which effects things like yielding, intimidation checks and such (just a guess, i could be completely off there)
Skevitj
For innately "evil" characters like bandits, it's more just them trying to get you to ignore them for a minute. But most of the time, fights with named characters and the like, it's their equivalent of the block-activate yield the PC could do in Oblivion, just a much more realistic and better developed system. It's certainly not a half worked feature: If they indicate they want the fight to stop, you have to reciprocate (ie, Sheathing your weapon), it works in reverse too (not all, but mostly), if they're winning, give up and they'll usually stop. However, characters who are immediately hostile, like bandits, foresworn etc, will resume attacking you no matter what.

Pablosky64
Yielding also works for companions. Your companion are nearly-invincible, as they will yield if their HP is near to 0. If that happens, the enemy (most of them) will ignore him/her, and go after you, giving your companion enough time to recover and go back into the fight. Oh, and putting back your weapon works for most non-evil characters. (Source: my experience) I like that feature, it's very realistic. It would be nice if your character could yield too. Ashrok
A yielding bandit... yeah right. That's like the oldest dirty trick ever. Turn around and they stab you instantly. :pirate: Dont you watch movies? Not a bug, its a feature.

Anyway, the enemy just takes a breath then gets up and swings at me again, putting me at risk. Considering it appears a good quarter of human enemies yield and I have not once come across one who doesn't immediately attack again even when I reciprocate, I reserve the right to continue calling this 'feature' half-baked. How often do you come across enemies who are not immediately hostile anyway? Why are they yielding when they will attack you again every single time? It's just messy. Pablosky64
I still think that feaure is for companions and non-evil enemies. And it is realistic. If you are badly hurt, even if you are a bandit chief, you can't stand on your feet - you are seeing in red and Death is laughing at you!
tmturrent
*Player storms into companions room, throws down a box of pictures of them killing yielded enemies* Where did you learn to do this!? Where!? "I learned it from you boss!" *sob* "I learned it from you!" (cookie for the reference) Anti-drug commercials. "I learned it from you dad!""I learned it from you!"
