Delikatessen
Yielding in real life does many things, such as a ruse. Take Die Hard, for example. McClane yields by putting his gun down when Hans is holding a gun to his wife's face. By putting the gun down, Hans lets down his guard, which is enough of a chance to save his wife by tearing an extra gun off his back to shoot Hans and his partner so he falls out a window to his death. Moral of the story is: Lay down your sword, because they just might lay down theirs, and then you take your dagger out and mercilessly slash their faces to ground meat. Almeida
You guys aren't getting it - there is a difference between something being realistic and something being a worthwhile gaming feature. There's a problem when people 'yield' then try to stab you again six times in one fight, or every 3 or 4 enemies does it. It gets old and makes the feature look pointless. I just don't get why evil/always hostile enemies are coded to do it, and so often. The only time it has occurred and made sense in the entire time I've played the game was in a boxing match... and then my companion whacked the yielding foe in the back with an axe anyway. Companions seem to ignore yield, which was a large part of my problem. Why code something into the game if it never leads to anything because 99% of the time it's a ruse and if you have a companion near you they will just kill the opponent anyway? As I said, the feature's half-baked. Good idea, poorly executed. Edited November 16, 2011 by Almeida
namad
yielding actually does a lot! yielding resets the disposition of the enemy who yields! this means bandits go from hating you to also still hating you, because bandits are basically just monsters in human clothes!!! if you are murdering or fighting some goodly folk of a town or something and then they yield.... and you are alone... and you let them yield... it will end the battle and they'll return to being a townsfolk! additionally you can yield to get guards to arrest you instead of killing youfurthermore your companion yields to lose agro and heal up... so yeah bandits are f***ing assholes this has nothing to do with how good or bad the mechanic is... all the people complaining didn't test things thoroughly
