shuazoid
Well I guess im not too bad a player, I have reached about lvl 30+ with my 1-handed and block around lvl 60. Thing is, I shoot down giants and mammoths from afar, hop round some rocks and and beat them down. Going upclose is suicide, simply due to unrealistic animal movements, I go round the mammoth's buttocks and he turns almost immediately, any help for close attacking big things? Fuzer
Use a follower, and power bash the giant while he is attacking your follower. Get a lot of stamina and health potions. I'm lvl 15 and kill them pretty easy in expert (i just get 1 hit rapped in master)
happycamper265
thought this too, have spent a lot of time improving my archery tree.....just about kill them after few good sneek shots and running away yeh turning seems a fair bit unrealistic?? bben46
I managed to kill a mammoth by finding a rock that it couldn't get around on either side, then continuously alternating between shooting it with arrows and throwing fireballs at it. It just kept going back and forth on it's side of the rock trying to find a way around. I went through a lot of arrows and had to continuously wait for my magica to regenerate enough to fireball again. The rock wasn't that high, I don't think they can jump at all. DyingAtheist
You're not necessarily meant to be able to go melee with them at lower levels. At about 25 it's quite easy to go toe to toe with a giant and barely take any damage.
vorius
Yeah rocks seem to totally break the AI pathfinding. It's pretty bad...
SpellAndShield
CQC is kind of suicide: my orc 2H Battle Axe Beserker engaged in hit and run tactics, the running 2H perk for double damage crit was very helpful but it did take a while, you can outsprint the Giant and dodge his attacks, if melee like I was you just have to dodge the blows swing your battle axe (bleeding damage perk helps) and you will fell him eventually. Nadimos
Make your character really big, then simply step upon them.
Uzibeatle
When my character was around level 8 and ran into a giant we decided to take it on. After 3 futile attempts, one ended up with my character in orbit around Skyrim, I've decided to avoid giants and runaway when I see them. This behavior was further reinforced when I saw one giant beat a dragon like a punk. I'll try some of the ideas featured here now that my character is 20 but I must admit I'm still skittish. Redeemer10
If you really must fight a Giant (not sure if it works against Mammoths) toe to toe the trick is that all their attacks are relatively slow and avoidable but extremely powerful. What I do is do as much as damage as I can and when I see him set up for a stomp or swing jump to the side or spring away and it will seem like you took damage but it shouldn't actually hurt you. Rinse and repeat, but I suggest saving before attempting lol.
