I've lost my horse . . .

So this is a common thing, I know. It happens to me a lot, but I usually just end up going back to an older save and being more careful so I don't lose Shadowmere. However I can't really do that this time, or well, I really don't want to. Shadowmere is gone. He left Blueblood Fort while I was in it. I've searched high and low, and I just can't find my horse! Usually when I fast travel to a city, it automatically brings him to the stables, but it isn't even doing that.

What can I do!? Any ideas? I've tried "Dude Where's my Horse" but it doesn't work.

When you loose Shadowmere, she always walks back to Fort Farragot, where Lucien gave her to you. Give her a couple of gamedays (because she walks very slowly and fights everything in her path) and she'll be back there.

I used to have this problem too. I eventually figured out that all horses attempt to return to the stable they were bought from or sometimes merely to the nearest stable. (real horses do this too! they always find their way back home or die trying, although they usually make sure their rider is with them.) Shadowmere will always return to the fort where you got him. Always. (has anyone else noticed that all of the horses in Oblivion are male? seriously! take a look next time if you don't belive me!) If he isn't there when you're looking for him, try traveling somewhere far away and returning. The time it takes you to travel will usually be greater than the time it takes a horse to get back. Sometimes the horse doesn't get back, in which case I usually assume they're dead, which is why I like to get Shadowmere.

That's because it works by tracking the last horse you mounted while the mod was active. The mod is a safety net, not a cure. When you're rock climbing, ropes save lives, but attaching it to your harness does nothing if you've already fallen off.

It's quite easy to make your own little mod using the CS that removes the wander line from Shadowmere's AI.

She'll stay right where you leave her then unless something makes her go home. (like getting knocked out when you're not around or you mount a different horse)
