AA and AS should take SOME FPS a least, right?

Yep e8500 is only a dual core penryn. But not all i5/i7 are quad core either.

I was just hoping to restrain the language here, talking about "very outdated" and so on which is nonsense. i5/i7 are not real upgrades to penryn unless you're prepared to overclock past 4ghz since the newer process can be pushed further.

Otherwise the OP processor is still essentially as good as it gets... so why make it sound like their computer is some kind of clunker...

Well, let's say that... Oblivionwise, Fallout 3size, New Vegasfize and Skyrimwise (which are CPU hug) framerate isn't really good! Less, that unless I use the tweaked Nvidia dll!

So, I would guess that all those games aren't really optimized then, right?

'Fraid so. Skyrim is the most optimised Bethesda game to date. Oblivion is by far the worst (everyone gets terrible frame rate with crowds of npcs).

And I was being factual, no hyperbole, the i5/i7 are not big upgrades to penryn. Core2 to Penryn was much more signficant.

The main thing is that the k series are unlocked multiplier so some people are overclocking their processors to 4+ ghz so i5/i7 are beloved of the emulator community etc. But at stock theres very little difference.

Ok! Cool! Thanks for the explanation!

One thing I don't understand though... Why is my CPU bottlenecking my GPU? My cpu is too old? Not fast enough? I mean, it's faster then the GPU, or is it?

Even though I know a lot about PC's, link between GPU's and CPU's have never been thing... Anyway, just if you know!

Thanks again!

It's a very out-dated processor, and remember, all graphics card calculations have to be interpreted by the processor. In other words - no matter how fast your graphics card is, it will always be limited by the CPU's processing power.

I think you may of help me understand my issues ...

GA-790XT-USB3

AMD Phenom II X4 p55 3.2GHz

10240MB Ram

AMD Radeon HD 6950

M audio FW 410

Windows 7 64 bit

So because of my frame rate issues this is because of my CPU holding back my GPU ? I wanted to buy a new CPU this week looking at this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103960

Then I may buy a new Power supply as well.

Also would this work with my board

p55 you mean 955? If that's the case then just overclock what you have since 955 has unlocked multiplier.

The phenom II are still good processors: between core2 and penryn/i5 in performance.

Seriously you will see more improvement overclocking what you have than swapping in a replacement.

Well I wanted to Overclock using auto-tune but my PC went to the Blue screen after overclocked reached '5th frequency' when I restarted my PC AMD said the overclock was set to 3.7 .... Yet SKYRIM still acts up . Now About 4 months ago I changed out the thermal past and got some on the pins ! I cleaned most of it off . Ever since then My PC seems fine but at times it feels off . But if my CPU was corrupted I should of known by now ?

If youd damaged the pins it just wouldn't work, period. What kind of temperatures do you get and are you using stock cooler?

And definitely don't upgrade the processor, it would be a complete waste of money. If you have money to burn you could see a real upgrade with a whole new overclocked (i.e. over 4ghz) i5/i7 system... anything else and you'll be disappointed.

- anyway what I'd do is check your temperatures (at stock your 955 should be under 50 degrees gaming), and in skyrim go to entrance of markarth looking up (lowest fps ive found) and see what settings will give you 30fps (turn down shadows first).

Bear in mind that stock clocked i5/i7 do not get 60fps (or even 30) on ultra everywhere in this game.
