For retexturing I need some original (*d.dds) files. I know the files and I know there site. Most of them work. So far, so good.

However, there are some of them which are just black in Paint and in IrfanView respective grey in Gimp.

Could this be a kind of program mistake or do I something wrong? Is there a way to fix it?

Sounds like an Alpha Channel Problem . You could try this

I open the texture with Irfanview (with the dds plugin enabled) and save it as a png or jpg.

The saved images in png/jpg format won't have an alpha map and can be loaded with Gimp or Photoshop without problems and you can proceed as usual.

Thank you very much for your kind hint! Unfortunately I haven't got the dds plugin for IrfanView. It's not in the list of the installed plugins under the menu option "help" of IrfanView. I tried to download from the specified website "http://www.irfanview.com". However it's not been part of the packet with "all" plugins although it's declared as supported file format on the official website of IrfanView.

Hi

In Irfanview go to Options Tab then Properties/Setting then Extensions and then check the DDS option (I believe the DDS plugin is bundle in the main program and just needs activating ) (note instruction's if using Win 10 on the right hand side and follow those instructions ie click control panel button then on control panel select Irfview and select the chose default option )

_EDIT_ Just tried this on my new PC and isn't working but is on my old one . I'm going to do a very checks and will get back to you

-==Update Version 4.36 with associated plugins works . But I can't get latest versions 4.42 (32 and 64 bit) bits to work==--

If you want to send me the d.dds you're having problems with I can try to remove the alpha channel on my old pc and send them back as PNG or DDS without Alpha channel

Found the Problem on the Options tab in Properties/Setting select Viewing and then untick

Show PNG/TIF/TGA/DDS alpha/transparent color .

You should you be able to view the DDS file . You will still need to save this without the Alpha channel as in my earlier post

This works on the 32 bit option
