Robynah
No, it doesn't, I'm pretty sure it's its CPU, a Phenom II doesn't have such performance per core like a C2D/Q, and far less a i5/i7, he can have its cpu at 3.7ghz, it will be like a C2D at 3.2ghz or so, as the game will only use two cores, if it was optimized for a quad core CPU at least he'd be fine, but that Phenom II at 2/6 cores is like an old C2D, deal with it. Phenom IIs are faster clock for clock than the core 2s e.g. the q6600 etc. What they are slower than is the penryn core 2s like the e8400 and the i5/i7. Which are pretty much equal to each other (couple % apart). So yeah... while the OP computer wont compare to an 2500k overclocked to 4.5ghz... it's still faster than any overclocked original C2D and a very good gaming computer. To the original poster: Yes it's true as youv'e noticed Bethesda games have had horrible performance. Even a 4ghz OC /i7 will drop frames (below 30fps even) looking at a big crowd of npcs in Oblivion. But don't compare these games to corridor shooters. Those game engines can use all kinds of tricks that an open moddable game world engine can't. Edited November 18, 2011 by Robynah
Dan3345
Yeah that wasn't a good comparison.. I just wish I could get this game to run smoothly from day one, instead of waiting a year for the quality performance mods. Which I should point out the obvious and say that the community is and has always been the bug squashers for bethesda RPG's. and thats wrong.. cylone
I just wanted to ask is it normal for me to have really bad performance with Skyrim. On top of Whiterun stairs its 24FPS, in the city its between 30 to max 40Wilderness is always bellow 40, so are interiors. Only staring at a wall gets me 60.I actually get way better performance in Whiterun city than anywhere else, even inside. 2x AA and 4x Anistropic and all settings at High not ultra. 1680x10501075 Phenom 2 x6gtx 560ti8gb Ram GPU is always at 97%+ usage while the cpu is like 10% to maybe 20% I've tried all sorts of tweaks and fresh installs and clean newest drivers, nothing works. Btw. Skyrim autodetects at medium but other games have usually good performance. Please help if you have any ideas or if you are having similar problems. Dan3345
yeah cylone, you seem to be in the same boat as me. Powerful gaming computer and yet still bad performance.
Game90
For comparison I have a i3 dual core 3.33GHZ ,4GB ram and Geforce 450GTS and my settings at 8xAA Anistropic everything else High and i always get 35-50 outdoors and wilderness, 50-70 inside buildings. 110 if i stare at the wall. If i set everything to maximum and ultra, the FPS drops by 60%. I would suggest you to play at High settings, set shadows at medium and get the shadow resolution fix. Update drivers, close all unnecessary background programs and check if your anti-virus program hog system resources as well. cylone
Yeah I guess I'm basically stuck with it. Normally I'd play some other game while waiting for the hopefully inevitable fix, but this is SKYRIM baby! It's just soooo awesome.I'm just sad cause I've been tweeking .inis for like 2 hours each day the last few days.Between that and making mods I've actually played the damn game less that fixing it. Well guys, those that can, have fun playing.

Well guys, those that can, have fun playing. I go through the same thing, but I love to hate it, as I learn a lot about computers and software each time. With that said, once you invest the time in getting it to work, you wont have a problem. Its the price we have to pay to use computers for gaming. Not to mention, the use of mods. saldu
And what about the mystery that your friend's system (which you claim to be identical to yours) runs it just fine, and you have those issues? Did you already double-check everything with him?
Dan3345
I have, and can figure out nothing. Of course he has similar drops as me but the difference his drops always go from 60-45 and then quickly back up. I am pretty sure this is no longer a hardware issue. DkFox
What graphic setting are you running on? And does using the next setting down give a marked improvement in fps?
