IdentityAJB
This may seem really weird because 1) I have no clue what I am talking about as far as putting mods together go and 2) I personally love and prefer the melee and magic of Elder Scrolls games compared to the hammed gunplay of the Bethesda Fallout games, but I would like to see a mod that tries to implement well balanced ballistic weapons and maybe even "Community Fiction" to the development of firearms on Tamriel. As far as putting the mod together... My base assumption from the comments I have been reading about the similarity of the Fallout code to the Skyrim code, I would think one would be able to use the assets (textures/sounds) of the previous Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas for the actual weapons and perhaps even be able to directly port everything about those weapons. As far as the engine is concerned for ballistic physics, new keys (leans, iron sights, reload), and what not, I am a bit at a loss. Maybe those can be replicated from the Fallout games as well? Or even maybe increasing the speed and range of the base Skyrim arrows to mimic bullet trajectory and then reskinning the arrows so they only appear as bullets rather than full arrowheads and stems? Idk, but I am sure there is a way to implement it despite the failures of similar attempts for Oblivion. Then there is the balancing which may be tricky to make the new firearms global conversions of the bows currently in game or additional items to the game. However, it should be noted that if the enemies do not have firearms, the mod is pretty trite and will lose its fun after awhile and simply feel like a 'god mode' addition. For the actual weapons... I don't think the mod should go overboard and use fully automatic weapons with red dot sights and laser pointers. I think the more basic and semi-automatic weapons would do such as: +Crossbow +Hunting Rifle [Fallout Wiki]+Higher Cal version of [Fallout Wiki] or even [Fallout Wiki]+Caravan Shotgun [Fallout Wiki]+Brush Gun [Fallout WIki]+Battle Rifle [Fallout Wiki]+Throwable Bombs *All referenced weapons and links from Fallout Wiki on fallout.wikia.com displaying resources from the Bethesda and Obsidian developed Fallout games. There are other weapons to be sure, but this is the general feel. Not going for full auto or high caliber sniper rifles. For the balancing, logic, and lore of the game... I prefer guns to be lethal in games, but since the AI most likely cannot be improved to use cover, a simple tweaking of the Fallout 3/NV damage values should be enough. It should go without saying, but NO VATS! It would be nice if bows were still present in some capacity such as maybe the Forsworn, Undead, and Daedra using them, but I think a global conversion of the rest of the groups would be suitable. It has been roughly 206 lore years since the events of Morrowind where we were treated to dwemer invention research and sky ships! Some progress should have been made! However, one probably doesn't think that these weapons would match that kinda leap and instead would think muzzle loaded flintlocks and the like, but those are no fun. So the lore needs to include perhaps...an Akiviri invasion attempt of Winterhold during 4E174 where the Akiviri possessed these weapons or at least similar weapons, but upon landing, the initial invasion is crushed by the final remaining deteriation of the city due to The Great Collapse that occurred 54 years prior, while the remaining fleet is sunk by trafficing the dangerous waters and perhaps a subtle hint of College of Winterhold intervention. The resulting discovery of the weapons in the wreckage by Empire agents allowed them to create firearms to use against the Aldmeri Dominion the following year to retake the Imperial City despite their small numbers. This would lead to their current prevalence of firearms in Skyrim...or something of the like...basically there should be a story or small group of stories that can be made into ingame lore books. For making the weapons and ammo, the forge could be used for the casting of steel bullets. Gunpowder or explosive material for the throwable bombs can be made from the ingame charcoal, salts (similar looking enough to pottasium nitrate in appearance), and some other ingredient to mimic sulfur. Firesalts perhaps? Maybe that is where some creativity can be involved with crafting the bombs by making it an Alchemy based thing. The bullets would be cast from the forge and would have damage addition properties based on materials used. Guns can be made from ingame dragon bone, antler, tusks, iron, steel, gold, etc. Ward spells could be used to deflect bullets. I know this is a lot, but I think if well implemented, it could be a neat different take on the game. Please comment on what you think and if you would be willing to take up the mod! IdentityAJB
final bump... I am pretty sure now that there is either zero/little interest for the mod and a previous thread has convinced me that perhaps an advancement in technology as I am proposing is not best: 200 years on and technology is still the same Still though, I find that the vertical level design of the world combined with the unique locations would make for some interesting gunplay or perhaps not. I am leaving this topic open for another day and a half and then calling quits. If you are interested in the ideas in this topic, please respond, if not, no big loss. Skyrim is pretty sweet as is. Decayz
I don't agree with this idea but i do like the idea of having a projectile weapon. Something like Ezio's wrist gun but the gun itself very primitive in design something like from when the first guns were being made, they were nothing but a black barrel and a pullback hammer. I think there should be this weapon, but its a unique weapon the only way to obtain is either follow a quest line (something to do with Dwemer Technology maybe?) or ItemID. I also think the ammo should be only craftable and the materials hard to find. This makes the gun's really high damage be something thats only of use once every combat situation because of most likely long reload time. This should probably be something like Assassins Creed. Having the quest obtainable from either a thieves guild member or Dark Brotherhood member. So I support the idea of the blackpowder projectile weapon but more like my version I have stated. Scorpio9
There should be firearms and dwarfs are the only ones who fit to it (the whole gun/powder/cannon theme).I'm not a fan of dwarfs and their robots, but I like destroying stuff so... it would be a win win situation for all of us. kitsuneshoujo
I Would like to propose a firearms alternative: Magitech. Guns that shoot spells instead of bullets. Or even guns that fire projectiles using magic instead of gunpowder. Ice shards for bullets propelled by wind magic or something like that. Basically it would be a staff with a magical spell effect with several charges... in the shape of a gun. :D
cain1982
I personally would love a mod introducing Fallout 3 and New Vegas Firearms and Armours to the game. But only from Fallout (mabey a M-4 Carbine) If they could be added in a (sorta) lore friendly way. their is a mischief god on the loose in the elder scrolls series, and I think he would love to do it! darkofan
I think that since the architecture of all the cities (other than markarth) is already renaissance, musket type rifles would fit perfectly into the world, but, like as you said, it would only be fun if other people in the world had guns as well. But it wouldn't feel right with the rohan looking guards and roman looking imperials walking around sop if someone could make the stormcloaks look like revolutionary american, the imperials look like redcoats, and the guards look like nopolianic era soldiers or something, along with using the rifles, would be so awesome and prolly the greatest mod out there in my opinion, if someone made this I would be so so very very happy... so so happy... :')
rabcor
Theres a huge flaw with this, which is also why spears are not in the game.one does not simply add new weapon types to the game. UNLESS you're a bethesda employee. we have 1 handed, 2 handed, archery, shields, we're limited to those, and the subgenres swords, axes, maces, warhammers, bows, crossbows, shields. we'd need a completely new weapon type, guns, with their own specific animation sets, etc and last i knew modders for some reason cannot do this, which probably has to do with that these things are (i guess) a part of the code, we cannot edit the game code.
