Non-instantaneous fast-travel? (FO 1&2)

Hi!

 

I was thinking, would it be good to add some sort of travel time with the possibility to encounter enemies or neutrals to a first person game like FO4? It would be great to make fast-travel not seem so... teleporty. However, would it even be reasonable to add chances for random events when the distances traveled are so short?

That idea has been roaming around since FO3. A bunch of wishlists for random encounters and then s*** ton of technical difficulties. Things like that.

I'm sure it would be borderline impossible with the current engine, but they can't duct taping it forever. I think that FO4 will be the last of the old engine, since its kind of met its breaking point here.
