Bamboo stick spears, various knives from Locke, a random pistol with 36 rounds. Later on a cr@pload of dynamite! The game should be challenging arms wise, you can't just go on an go charging in the jungle with a wooden stick at a high level, taking no damage and bashing every head in :P

 

In increased lore.... surviving at the beach for let's say.. 1 week in-game until you get a quest to enter the jungle and find a cave. You can't drink the salt water from the sea, maybe put radiation so high that it would seem stupid to try surviving with that water. Also for food, you'll have to hunt boars, but if you get one, you find few meats and you'll have to share it with others:

 

Find 5 boar meat

Deliver the meat to Jack = Good karma, 1 boar meat

Keep the boar meat = Bad karma, 5 boar meat

 

Quests like this. Find the cave..

 

Tell about the cave to Jack = Good karma, 5 purified water + each day you get 1 bottle for free

Tell about the cave to Sawyer = Bad karma, 15 purified water + each day you get 1 bottle for trade

 

Karma would affect how aggressive the black smoke would be to the player. Bad karma = more dangerous smoke, or the smoke would have different abilities such as if it is in close range, it poisons the player. With good karma it might just pass by, randomly scare off the player and have no proximity damage dealing ability.

 

After 2 weeks of playing, you'll get a quest about the others, randomly every night there would be an attack attempt. If no friendly NPC is hurt = good karma, if any NPC is hurt or you weren't there = bad karma and some benefits taken such as getting fish from Jin or Boar meat from Locke...

 

Hunger level increases and when you get to the point where hunger is nearly max, the food reinforcement spawns somewhere in the jungle. Find it to either share with others or keep everything to yourself....

 

Like this the story could progress. 3 weeks Locke finds the hatch, you get a quest to either stay with Locke and do some small little tasks etc... or go with the group to find dynamite. If you go with the group to find dynamite no one will be blown up, but you'll see the black smoke. If you stay with Locke, one NPC will die with the dynamite but you'll go on Locke's good side.

 

 

In the end there could be a karma calculator deciding whether you'll go with The Others or Jack.

 

Just some ideas :P

 

 

Edit: To start the Lost mod, I guess go to the Airport and you'll find Kate, because you invited her there. Then you'll scream at her that we need to go back, and she thinks you are crazy and she leaves. Then the screen blacks out and the story begins.
