Skyrim Rocks vs BF3 Rocks...High Rez Pack in our Future?

Hi Guys, I'm loving Skyrim and all the mods for it. I was wondering if there was a mod out there that would improve the textures of the rocks and possibly add some extra poly's to them when you're close to them. Here's an example of rocks in Bf3 and Skyrim.

Skyrim Rock Textures vs. BF3 Rock Textures

Is there a mod out there for these kinds of textures or one that uses LOD to tesselate objects up close?

Thanks!

Only when CK is released will you start seeing mods that improve the LOD. Oblivion has mods that do that, so Skyrim will as well -- it's just a matter of learning what they added to the CK, and possibly waiting for a graphics extender if needed. And when it does get released don't expect rocks of that quality (BF3) replacing the vanilla rocks. The guy in the link's comment box is in the ballpark on why something like this is not the best way for tackling the low resolution problem for Skyrim's environments.

Ok, thanks for the info. I figured it would be possible. Using LOD inside caves/closed environments seems like it'd be pretty "doable". LOD in the outside terrain based sort sucks...I'd hate to see so many objects tesselate as soon as you got near them (thinking of trees here).

Tessellation is part of DX11 if im not mistaken, which this game doesn't support from what I've seen. I would love to see someone mod in DX11 for code optimization aswell as hardware tessellation added to the game. As you can tell from the 2 images, the poly counts are drastically different. I would assume part of the reason Skyrim has lower poly rocks in outside environments is because of how expansive certain views are in the game. This would require new models built into the game though, even if you didn't use DX11. I wonder how adding more polygons to certain object geometry would effect the games overall performance. There are huge environments in BF3 on the FB2 engine aswell, I wonder how they coped with the strain?

EDIT: I also think most of Skyrims look is an art style, Oblivion had some better base textures then even this does, I think they were going for a more styled look rather than real life. Its evident in the rocks , hands , characters, but its kind of weird they contrast it a lot with things that do look hyper real, like bears, fur rugs, graphical effects. Regardless the vanilla art style is very nice to look at. Although a graphic mod would make the immersion unreal!
