mikelhk
Hi everyone, have a bit of a problem here that I can't quite figure out. The game's been working fine and all but up till one of my recent saves, specifically after I crafted and enchanted my first set of Daedric armor, the game ceased to play the Boss/Battle music when dragons attack AND the chants that play when players approach a Dragon Wall. It's gotten really annoying as music's a huge part of this game's ambience and it kind of sucks to have to fight dragons with a soothing violin piece in the background. I've tried multiple reboots and reloads as well and nothing seems to work. I tried playing through from an older save on which the music was working fine and after a while, the music ceases to play. My drivers are updated, all sound settings are in check and save the boss/battle music and wall chants, everything seems to be fine. Anyone faced such an issue yet? Any solutions out there? :( Edited November 17, 2011 by mikelhk

gjohnvincent
I've been having this problem too. There is a console command 'setnoactivationsound' which can be used to manually activate a specific sound like the battle music if it doesn't automatically activate. The problem is, I have no clue as to what the sound ID is. I've tried a few different variables using the 'help' command to search for the sound but so far I've only found 'amb' in the 'help' command which pulls up a list of all ambient sounds in the game but unfortunately does not seem to include the battle music. :( If you want to give it a go, just open up the console[~(tilde key)] and type in "help amb 4" without the quotation marks. This will list down a number of sounds and maybe you might find it because I didn't actually look through every single one of them.

I am really not motivated to kill dragons if my background music is so peacefull Okay, so after a lot and I mean A LOT of troubleshooting and internet lurking I finally found out the reason. Well, at least I think this is what's happening with yours as well. It all boils down to your armor rating apparently. Once your armor hits about 700 or so, the game is 'broken'. It's as if Skyrim thinks you're too over-powered and just cuts off all battle music because it's angry at you for being powerful. I think this is plain ridiculous because you can hit over 700 in armor even without the smithing and enchanting loop. Having smithing at 100 and crafting a legendary set of Daedric Armor + heavy armor at 100 with all perks directly affecting armor rating + enchanting at 100 to create enchantments that increase armor rating is enough to go over 700. By all accounts that should be a legitimate end game set that shouldn't 'break' the game but apparently it does. This blog confirms my findings because it happened to him too: http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/mikelhk/tales-from-skyrim-when-the-game-thinks-you-re-too-overpowered-216753.phtml Hopefully Bethesda fixes this because it's just plain ridiculous for it to happen in the first place. :(

gjohnvincent
haha! all that internet lurking led me to your blog post! lol, should've seen the name but then gaming between the wee hours of 1am to 5am(singapore time) makes my eyes lazy in realizing the names are the same. lol! but yeah, anyways it all comes down to the fact that this is a problem that bethesda should address because i want my combat music AND my god-like durability!! :D
