Carreau
Not really, I mean, its just for roleplaying convenience or aesthetic preference. I dont see how invisible helmets could be consider an exploit. Hell, WoW allows for it and in that case you could stretch it and say that its an exploit since helmets reveal a small portion of your opponent's gear quality. Your logic is the same as saying that instead of making ore veins glow more, we should give players a bonus for running past them. There was a database hack (probably still is, I haven't messed with any since Cata went live) that could be done to disable helms for the entire game. It was almost necessary if you did a race swap model edit since the swapped race's helmets NEVER lined up, and would require a lot of trial and error database edits to make it line up more or less fine. I'm not sure if only disabling PC helms is possible with the current setup of BethSoft games. In FO:NV, I edited Veronica to remove her hood, but had to manually check options on her unique equipment to pull that off. You could do something similar once the CK is out for Skyrim, but it would have to be on a helmet to helmet basis, and anyone else in game using that helmet would also be sans visual helmet. Hm, I guess the only real option is to wait for the CK, and then create a new smithing path that allows you to create different Emperor Helms of different qualities (Daedric, Elven, etc.), which would basically be invisible but require that kind of material slash specialization. SierraKhaar
Sorry but butting in, but IMO this is the first Beth. game *takes cover for incoming verbal attacks* where the helmets actully look good on the character!!! Was I the only one using the best looking armor in Morrowind because you looked like a moron in most of them? LOL those were the days... But I agree, its a standard in RPG's now days to have that toogle.
darkekun
What I am looking for is a simple replacement mod for all the helmets that uses the circlets as the model/texture for the helmets. Steel/Iron color helms get the iron circlet, and leather/gold colored armors get the gold/copper circlets. That way there is something on your head that indicates you have a helmet on, but still allows you to see your face. I will admit this has been the best game as far as armor/helmet appearance, but I feel odd conversing with people in 3rd person mode in town with a full face helmet, but don't want the tedium of swapping headgear every time I enter/leave town. Also, once you've become a than in multiple towns it would seem right to wear some sort of crown-like headgear. I tried dissecting the current "no helmet mod" to engineer a personal replacement, but I just don't understand enough of how it was made when I look at it in TESsnip. I suppose a straight .NIF replacement could be done, but I need to know how to pull the circlet .NIF files from the base game and layout the directories in the data folder. Anyone have any ideas on how to help on that? -darkekun-
