hothead112
I have a problem in oblivion. In interiors I play with a very smooth 30 fps on high graphics quality, but in exterior areas It suddenly drops to 10 or below. Even on lowest graphics, without distant landscape its still horribly slow. It seems to get even worse after playing for a while, with the fps dropping even further. As for mods or anything, the only things I have which changes exteriors would be lowpoly grass, and a mod which gives distant landscape to battlehorn. Is there any solution to this problem? hothead112
After disabling all my mods, I found no difference in the FPS at all. I have a radeon x1650 video card, and in interiors I can, like I said before, play with graphics set to high. What could be the difference in the exterior areas? Crisb92
The difference in exteriors is that there is more 'stuff', npcs, statics, meshes and texture for the computer to render, spread over a larger area, making the fps drop in exteriors. hothead112
So there is no way to effectively increase the FPS?
TheTerminator2004
An x1650? You wouldn't be able to play at high settings in exteriors with that, I don't think. And, as Crisb said, the reason interiors can be played at so much higher fps is because there is less for the computer to do than there is in exteriors. As for effectively increasing fps, the first thing you should do is lower the graphics settings, until you find a good balance between fps and quality. there are also a number of .ini tweaks you can do, but they're complex, and don't have very much effect, imo.
