Help With Weapon Mod

Today I modeled the sword that the Spartans use in the move 300 using 3D Studio Max. I imported the .nif file for the elven shortsword and modified that to look like the xiphos(I think its called) from 300. I then exported it as a nif, placed it in the oblivion\data\meshes file and opened the Construction Set. I did not bother giving it a texture because my 3d SMax wont allow me to use dds as textures. It says error with 3d something, that is a whole other story... :wallbash: . Anyway, I loaded Oblivion.esm, went to items\weapons and double clicked on the Daedric Longsword. I changed the ID, name and then changed the nif file from the daedric longsword to my nif I created. I clicked OK, then yes to create a new form. I then went and found A Fighting Chance in the interiors menu, double clicked that, then drag and dropped my weapon on the floor of the shop. I saved the plug in file, opened Oblivion, checked the box next to my mod in data files then clicked play. I go into Rohssan's shop and I see my sword on the floor(excitement building at this moment) I rush over to it and find that I cant interact with it at all. Cant move it with Z, can pick it up, cant do anything. When I put the cursor over it it doesn't even show that it is an item. I have tried several times, even placing it in different locations using the CS. What am I doing wrong? Have I missed a step? I looked online for how to put weapons into the game and followed the instructions closely, but it never worked for me. At this moment, I am willing and hopeful someone will take my nif file and give it some texture and make it work. Either that or help me figure out my problem so I can get it to work. Im desperate.

Please Help,

:wallbash: Watson :wallbash:

P.S. I included a JPEG printscreen of the sword out of 3Ds Max. I wanted to fillet some of the edges but couldnt find the button/command. I just started using 3D Max yesterday. I included this picture just to give you guys an idea of what I'm doing. The second picture is what I based the model after.
