vonrex
All spells currently require a short "click-and-hold" action to "charge". This is a bad idea for two reasons: 1) If you don't hold the button long enough, nothing happens. This results in wasted actions and frustrating combat. There's few things more annoying in any program than clicking on something to see nothing happen. I don't want to worry about whether or not my lightning or healing spell is actually going to cast or not. I just want it to cast when I signal the action. Keeping the delay itself would be ok, if deemed necessary for game balance reasons, as long as the spell is initiated with a single mouse-click and doesn't require click-and-hold. It would just make it a long casting animation. But I think it would be even better to remove this charging period entirely and just make spells cast when you click, like they did in Oblivion. It's not like mages are currently overpowered. 2) More importantly, click-and-hold is damaging to the hand. If you have any kind of repetitive stress problem, you dread this kind of operation. If you don't have such a condition, continued use of such actions is a good way to get it. My hand is already sore from just playing for a few days. I don't know if I want to continue playing any kind of mage if this is the way it's going to be. So in short, the UI team for Skyrim managed to make the interface both annoying and physically damaging to the user. Add it to the list of other UI crimes they've committed. Is it possible to mod this sort of thing? I think it's jumped right to the top of my list of things I'd most like to see changed in this game.
