Crashing in Inventory

I'm wondering if many other people are having this problem

 

When I open my inventory and look at the items for a while the game freezes, goes to black screen then crashes to desktop.

The more I have in the inventory the more it happens and if I am overloaded it will almost certainly happen.

 

In my tray area at the bottom of my desktop screen I have the error message that my video card has stopped responding.

 

I've used the fix that expands the game to read 4GB and I thought that fixed the problem, but it just crashed again when I was overloaded in a bandit area.

I have read in other forums that others are having this problem and would be very appreciative on any ideas for fixing this as it makes the game pretty much unplayable for me.
