Repairing Weapons

Hi all!

I've stumbled accross a real problem with the stage I am at in Oblivion. I've been playing and modding side by side for a long long time now but have come upon a real problem.

This problem involves my bow (both modded and vanilla ones) breaking after one arrow shot. I haven't altered any stats of the arrows or bows in the CS which is why it happened to me once before. I tried some durability increase mods out there with no change.

So firstly, can anyone tell me why this might be happening?

Secondly a possible idea for a solution could be if some genius scripter out there could help me out and make a script that could auto repair the weapons every time they are used.

Anyone care to assist? I would appreciate it as I'm tearing my hair out!!

Thanks

Rather than looking for a mod, you might be better off in figuring out why your bows break so quickly. Sounds like one of your mods is screwing with game settings in a way that you probably don't want, or no attempt was made to counter any side-effects. Since obviously bows in vanilla are good for more than one use. Offhand I'm not sure why bows would behave in that way, but not other weapons, but the most likely cause would be any unusual mods that change combat damage when the author didn't pay attention to what settings they were changing. The reason why a durability mod migh not work is that most of them just change the health values at the weapon, rather than change the percentage of damage that is sent to the item, or the probability that the item takes damage.

Any sort of scripting would require OBSE, and would probably have to repair the damage right away without costng any hammers. That scripting would also be constantly active, and still probably not prevent the bow from being unequipped or the cause of the problem.

It seems to me, if there's a way to determine how they calculate how much is repaired/how often hammers break, rigging a quest script to auto-repair, add armorer experience, and remove hammers wouldn't be terribly hard... In fact, I might give it a go.

But yes, you should really look at any mods enabled that might alter durability/damage to weapons...

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Sypron I also use a ring that fortifies my character's strength because I wanted to carry more loot. However the problem still persists even with the ring unequipped.

I am now going through my 50+ mods and deselecting those I think could affect weapons. I'm sure I'll find the culprit eventually. Yes it sounds like a script would be unecassary if I can find the 'bad' mod instead. I guess I didn't realise it could be that simple.

I am curious however and thought I would ask anyway. Does anyone know where to go in the CS to increase the encumberance level. I've delved into the CS menu Gameplay> Settings but am unsure what entry I should alter. If anyone could tell me that would be great. Having a ring to fortify strength is annoying as obviously it's using up a slot I could have used for something more useful. Having no encumberance would be even better. I would like to do it myself with assistance but alternatively if someone could recommend a mod that can do this that would also be good?

Thanks

Encumberance can be adjusted easily, the problem is that it affects everyone equally, rendering things like feather and burden almost (more) useless.

Just try not to set it too high or you may find yourself turning into a packrat and having long pauses whenever you try to open a container or access your inventory. For some silly reason they made it so that the weight of everything is continually recalculated every time you access a container, this means that if you have a few hundred arrows, some sets of armor, a few hundred alchemy ingrediants, a dozen repair hammers, 40+ lockpicks, some books, scrolls, potions, and 3-4 different weapons, you may be looking at quite a bit of a pause. This is lessened somewhat if you have more than 2gb ram, but it can still be a bit of an annoyance.
