RaffTheSweetling
I am still using the original version. Never updated, never wanted to or needed to. However now my mod is making the CK become a shambolic mess (I make my cells pretty detailed), and I thought it couldn't hurt to run the latest CK for the possibility of better performance. My problem is this: I do not want to mess things up. I need my CK. Old is better than nothing. The Bethesda.net launcher does not appear to recognize that I have the CK already. Do I need to uninstall my CK to replace it with the newest iteration of the Creation Kit? When I hit install, the square icon spins around and around and nothing happens. Which files can/should I make back-up copies of, in case I need to roll-back to my first CK version? Will Bethesda.net launcher overwrite my existing CK with the new version in the same way that STEAM updates the .exe, and NMM updates? Hoping to get answers asap as working on my mod is a crash-tastic affair now. Very slow, very buggy, and I feel like the whole deck of card will come tumbling down at any second. Cheers! RaffTheSweetling
Well I guess this means no one knows how to update the CK (unlikely), or no one can be bothered helping a fellow modder out with his problem.
radiumskull
As far as I can tell - from the fact that I have updated my CK - it updates through the Bethesda.net Launcher. I've been able to see updating processes going on if I log out of the Launcher and log back in. HOWEVER. The last time I was able to get this to work, my working ESM(?) file, the one containing all of my custom edits, was turned from a 350Kb file to a 0Kb file. So something deleted my stuff... fortunately I had the Autosave enabled and I got it back. I've been backing up my incremental saves in a different location ever since. If you're having trouble with the Launcher recognizing your CK install, you can always reinstall the CK through the Launcher. But back up your custom files beforehand, of course. I don't know if it's possible to install a roll-back version of the CK. I expect that most CK updates would be fixing things, so I don't know why you would want to. Personally, I'm not a fan of the 'older is better' POV in this case.

RaffTheSweetling
It seems I am unable to connect to the servers in Australia. I scoffed at this issue a while back, but I'm not scoffing now. There genuinely is a problem for Australians downloading the CK. I've submitted a question to Bethesda.net technical support. Hopefully I will be able to actually connect to the server containing the CK soon. In the meantime, I still don't know - Will the CK update overwrite my existing CK, or do I need to uninstall it first? @RadiumSkull - Cheers for the heads-up. I always make a backup of my .esp every time I'm about to work on my mod. :) I have hundreds of backups now. :P @Kitty Black - I will message you If I get stuck. :) Thanks for the support! Purr4me
My door for you is always open, you know that. And I spy a table in Fo4 that fit's the other project too. Just sayin. NOTE: For server work around there, use the browsers regional settings that place your IP else where, then you can connect, make sure you use the zip code for the region and city so it connects you to them. Use mine here (http://download.cdp.bethesda.net/BethesdaNetLauncher_Setup.exe) Edited July 15, 2016 by Purr4me

I found a table in the FO3 vanilla lists actually. :) Just enlarged it and it fit quite well in the end. :) I have the launcher, and have the first version of the CK already. But for some reason the launcher won't allow me to download the latest CK version. The little square just keeps spinning. If I don't hear back from tech support, I will try the IP-relocating workaround. Griffin
Purr4me
the current version located on the hard drive, rename it and reboot, log in to bethesda.run the launcher, IF the Beth icon is already on the task bar, it needs to be shut off in task manager first. The download will not download to the games directory, but instead to the steam common directory, it's not auto install any thing, it's just an updated package for things to come shortly. All data once downloaded needs to be copied into the games folder where it will do the most good. That weird box spinning indicates the software is already in ram so it is conflicting. IF you run the app and it freezes up? it's a conflict on your end. It's a hokey way they set it all up.let me see IF I can get you a direct install link and try that here. Purr4me
I never forget things, I do get absentminded if I take on too much, but never forget. I get too far ahead of things...Yes. I do forget some things like others can't keep up or are not informed "yet". but that's all on me. Currently remembered I need to finish compiling a data base for plugins for Fo3 and then start on Fo4's systems. Choices we make can some times hurt progress. That dinner thing, I made that environment in ten minutes if I recall? ..For the table thing. Frustrating as it was, you let me off the hook so I went onto other things. As you do, I have kids too, RL brings all sorts of fun things up to stop progress. I weigh that, and RL takes heed.
Purr4me
Just to make sure it's aregional thing, I created a spare steam and Fallout 4 install section. A walk through for CK install..making sure these things are done in this order.https://s26.postimg.org/6i1ra1n2h/Durring_setup.jpgThat shows on the right side where I want the software to install too, on the left, the default install location on windows 10 will kill progress and disable all functions. I don't believe they thought about windows ten being a factor here.EDIT: when the launcher completes, this is what you should be seeing?() Edited July 15, 2016 by Purr4me
