darkblayd
Anyone know if the skills system is hard coded like the game's predecessors? Will we be able to add new skills and dictate what actions level them up or are we stuck waiting til a script extender comes up to make a half arsed attempt at it? I'm sure that perk mods will make things more livable even if the skills themselves are finite again at least...
Lingwei
In all likely hood yes the skills will be hard coded in again. The perks system should hopefully be expandable (will be horrible if it isn't)
darkblayd
Oh gawd no... They couldn't possibly screw up so bad as to hard code the number of perks... could they? Now that I think about it they are all graphically represented in the ui, if there's no editor for that in the CS it's going to be such a pain anyway. Cipscis
Looking at the contents of Skyrim.esm, it appears that there are plenty of perks which you can't pick manually, so you'll certainly be able to add more perks at least. Whether or not they can be chosen depends on how far that part of the interface can be modded. I've heard the interface uses Flash and ActionScript, and I've already seen a couple of intriguing interface modifications, but I've no idea what can be done in this part. As for skills, I expect they're hard-coded, as they've always been. I can't find anything about them in Skyrim.esm, either, which would support that conclusion. darkblayd
Thanks for the reply Cipscis, I expected as much but it's still a little disappointing = / Hopefully the perk modding will distract me from it lol.
Mansh00ter
From what I've seen so far with people already expanding UI with new functionalities, and being an experiences AS3 programmer myself, I wouldn't worry too much about expanding perk trees. If the menus are really Actionscript driven, then, once the proper data and code structure is revealed, it would be easy to add new UI elements. Much easier than expanding old school UIs anyway. darkblayd
Something new to learn I guess. I was just kind of hoping bethesda would throw us a bone and code in the ability to program skills. Take spears for example, they decided against them, well ok. Mods will end up including them and no doubt eventually one of the revered animators floating around here may even custom animate them.If bethesda were a bro, they would have at least coded in a few blank skills to be filled in later. Would have been so nice to just say oh, level up when using these items, use this animation, and then put it in the ui and be done. Maybe I'll get the runner up prize and see that multiple animations can be assigned per skill, since for instance 2h axes and greatswords have different animations. That still leaves me wanting for acrobatics however. Who knows, I wish they would release the cs already, the curiosity will eat me alive by then ha...
