Sativarg
Just today I watched the Doctor Who Christmas special Voyage of the Damned and a very memorable sound effect was heard that was also used in Morrowind(C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\Fx\envrn\factCREAK.wav). A few years ago I had a similar experiance while watching Family Matters and the door to the Transformation Chamber, which turned Urkel into "Stefan Urquelle" uses an unmistakable Morrowind sound. Season: Six 1994/95Episode: The Substitute Son #135Morrowind sound heard:C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\Fx\trans\drmtl_opn.wav and drhvy_cls.wavNow everyone knows that Steve Urkel had this transformation machine that could change him in Stefan Urquelle, Elvis Urkel and other personas. Anyway Steve gets beat up and decides to get revenge. As I remember Steve gets ahold of a hair from Bruce Lee. He goes into the transformation chamber with the hair and emerges Bruce Lee Urkel! He also comes out with a Bruce type haircut and a black kung fu suit. Impowered with the kung fu of Bruce Lee, Urkel kicks ass. I thought at the time that the show had taken the sound from the Game but as you can tell from the date of airing for season six. It is apparent that Bethesda is using sounds from, what may be, a library of sounds many media use; perhaps like http://www.sound-effects-library.com/. In any case, I was wondering: Do other people who play the game get that certain feeling of nostalgia or maybe just recognition when you hear the sounds from Morrowind in a TV show or Movie? Crisb92
I certainly do, and funnily enough, my sister now hums the Morrowind menu sound, even though she has no idea where it comes from.
Crisb92
She's 13, and the bird reference may well be an accurate description :P. Yeah, I've heard sounds in nature and the world that sound very like ones from games I play too.
Sativarg
;D I think this starling picked up the sound from my game as I live outside. He was very talented as a mimic. I kinda miss that bird. West Nile Virus might have done him in. Starlings have diverse and complex vocalizations, and have been known to imbed sounds from their surroundings into their own calls, including car alarms, and human speech patterns. The birds can recognize particular individuals by their calls, and are currently the subject of research into the evolution of human language.[1]
